The Toyota Vios is a sedan with a 1,496cc engine, and on the new-car list it now comes as a hybrid. This guide is for anyone pricing one up, new or registered. It covers the list price, the COE, road tax and insurance, then the costs that depend on you.
The insurance prices are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote will depend on your answers.
The Vios on sale and on our form
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 shows the Vios as a sedan made in Thailand, with one version:
- Vios Hybrid 1.5 eCVT: petrol-electric, 1,496cc, 110bhp
Our quote form has two entries:
- VIOS: 1,496cc
- Vios 1.5: 1,497cc
The insurance figures below are for the VIOS (1,496cc) entry, the one most of our insurers quote. Match the entry to your car's papers when you ask for a price.
The price to buy
As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:
- Vios Hybrid 1.5 eCVT: S$199,888
List prices change with every COE round. When you compare offers, check what each one includes before you look at the total.
The COE
The price page states the rule for the VIOS with its 1,496cc engine. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if its power is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The COE page shows the latest.
Road tax
For the 1,496cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year before any age surcharge.
Cars older than 10 years pay a surcharge:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page has the figure for the 1,497cc entry and other engines.
Car insurance for the standard driver
The Toyota Vios price page prices this case:
- Car: VIOS, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
For that driver, 15 insurers price the Vios, and only one on our panel has no online price for it yet. The lowest premium is S$604.07. The insurer whose lowest plan is highest asks at least S$1,313.03. That is S$708.96 more, or 117% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
The same car and driver can cost more than twice as much from one insurer to the next. That gap is the plainest reason to compare.
Excess
The excess is what you pay towards each claim. Most plans here carry S$600. The range runs from S$0 on one plan to S$3,000 on another, with three plans at S$2,500. A low premium may come with a high excess, so read the two figures together.
How much the NCD is worth here
With one detail changed and the rest held, the price page shows these lowest prices:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,221.11, S$617.04 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,136.39, S$532.32 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,017.37, S$413.30 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$604.07, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
- A car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less
The NCD matters a great deal on this car. Without one, the lowest price is 102% higher, roughly double. A driver with 20% NCD pays S$413.30 more. A young driver with 30% NCD pays S$532.32 more.
By contrast, the car's age barely moves the floor. A new Vios costs S$18.27 more, and an 8-year-old one S$51.16 less. An older driver pays the same as the standard driver.
These are lowest prices only. Plans further up may move by other amounts.
If a new driver will use the car
If a younger family member will be the main driver, price that case first. On this car, a driver aged 27 with 30% NCD starts S$532.32 above the standard driver. Ask each insurer for that exact case, since the order of prices may change.
Against similar cars
The price page sets six cars beside the Vios, for the same driver and car age:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class: S$749.93
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
Their average lowest price is S$773.50. The Vios is 22% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. Other Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town.
- Petrol: your mileage and pump prices. The hybrid uses an electric motor as well as petrol.
- ERP: your routes and the times you drive them.
- Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over time. Ask what the warranty covers on the hybrid parts.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later in its COE life.
