The Toyota Vellfire is an MPV made in Japan. This review looks at what the Vellfire costs to insure, then at road tax, the COE and the list price.
Premiums here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote; your own details change the price.
Here's what you'll pay
The Toyota Vellfire price page prices this standard case:
- Car: Vellfire 2.4 (2,362cc), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
For that driver, 15 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$764.82 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,624.02. That is S$859.20 more, or 112% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
In plain terms, the same car and driver can cost more than twice as much at one insurer as at another. One insurer on the panel has no online price for the Vellfire yet.
Note the version. The page prices the older Vellfire 2.4, the one most insurers quote. The versions on sale today are 2,487cc hybrids, so their prices may differ.
The excess on each plan
The excess is the part of a claim you pay before the insurer pays. On the Vellfire's page:
- Most plans: S$600
- Some plans: S$500, S$750 or S$800
- A few plans: S$2,500 or S$3,000
- One plan: no excess, at a higher premium
Read both numbers together. A plan that looks low on premium can leave you paying far more on a claim.
How the price changes with you and the car
The price page shows the lowest premium when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,141.63, which is S$376.81 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,141.63, which is S$376.81 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,141.63, which is S$376.81 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$764.82, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$787.96, which is S$23.14 more
- Car 8 years old: S$700.28, which is S$64.54 less
Your NCD is the biggest single factor. With none, the lowest price is 49% higher. A younger driver with a short record lands on the same figure. The car's age moves the price much less. These are lowest prices only, and other plans may move by different amounts.
Pros and cons for insurance costs
- For: none of the six similar cars on its page is cheaper to insure.
- For: an older driver with a long record pays the same as the standard case.
- For: 15 insurers price it, so there is room to compare.
- Against: the spread from lowest to dearest is wide, at 112%.
- Against: a young or new driver pays S$376.81 more at the lowest price.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
- Audi RS 3 Sportback: S$1,310.08
- Mitsubishi Outlander: S$861.03
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Chevrolet Captiva: S$764.82
- Chevrolet Malibu: S$764.82
They average S$970.42. The Vellfire is 21% below that, level with the two Chevrolets. Other Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page.
What to check on a plan
- Workshop terms: the standard case uses an authorised workshop. Ask what changes with another choice.
- Named drivers: a younger driver added to the policy can lift the price.
- NCD after a claim: ask how much NCD you lose, and what it costs to protect it.
- Excess: check both the main excess and any extra for young or new drivers.
Versions and list prices
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has four Vellfire versions. All are MPVs made in Japan, petrol-electric hybrids with a 2,487cc engine and 247bhp. As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day:
- Hybrid 2.5 Z Premium: S$321,500
- Hybrid 2.5 Z Premier: S$327,700
- Hybrid 2.5 Executive Lounge: S$402,400
- Hybrid 2.5 Elegance: S$431,888
The quote form also lists the older Vellfire 2.4 (2,362cc), 2.5 (2,494cc) and 3.5 (3,456cc). List prices move with each COE round, so check what any offer includes.
COE and road tax
COE. With a 2,362cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Vellfire 2.4 needs a Category B COE. It closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has later results.
Road tax. For the 2.4's 2,362cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,636.72 a year, before any age surcharge. The hybrids on sale and the 3.5 have other engine sizes; the road tax page works them out. Over 10 years old, a surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Costs that depend on you
Parking, petrol, ERP, servicing and depreciation all turn on how and where you use the car. Check your HDB or condo season parking rate. Follow Toyota's service schedule, and ask what the warranty covers.
