Toyota Rush in Singapore, a breakdown of road tax and insurance costs

Road tax, the COE rule and car insurance for the Toyota Rush 1.5 in Singapore, with prices from 14 insurers and how the driver changes them.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

This is a breakdown of the yearly bills for a Toyota Rush in Singapore. It starts with the fixed costs set by the engine, the COE and road tax. Then it turns to car insurance, which is where your own choices make the biggest difference.

The insurance prices are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. They are not a quote.

The Rush on our quote form

The new-car list has no entry for the Rush on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type. The quote form lists one version, the Rush 1.5, with a 1,495cc engine. Every figure below is for it.

The COE rule for a 1,495cc engine

The price page states the rule for the Rush 1.5. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is higher, it needs a Category B COE.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page has the latest figures, which change each round.

When you look at a registered car, its COE comes with it. Ask when it ends, since that shapes both the price and how long you can keep the car.

Road tax

For a 1,495cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$681.32 a year, before any surcharge for age.

Once a car is over 10 years old, the surcharge climbs in yearly steps:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

See the road tax page for other engines.

Car insurance: the spread

The Toyota Rush price page prices this driver and car:

  • Car: Rush 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

That driver gets prices from 14 insurers. The lowest premium is S$604.07. The insurer whose lowest plan is highest asks at least S$1,232.96, or S$628.89 more. In other words, 104% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Two insurers on our panel have no online price for the Rush yet.

Excess

The excess is the part of a claim you pay. Twelve plans here carry S$600. Others are at S$500, S$750 or S$800. At the top end, three plans ask S$2,500 and one asks S$3,000. No plan on this page is without an excess. So compare the excess and the premium as a pair.

Changing the driver or the car

The price page shows the lowest price with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,003.16, S$399.09 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,003.16, S$399.09 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,003.16, S$399.09 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$604.07, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less

A missing or small NCD costs the most. The lowest price rises 66%, and it is the same figure for a driver with 20% NCD and a driver aged 27. The driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard driver.

A newer or older car moves the floor only a little. That makes the driver's record the thing to watch.

These are the lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by different amounts, and one fewer insurer quotes some of these cases.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

For the Rush

  • The lowest price sits below all six similar cars on its price page.
  • An older driver pays no more at the lowest price.
  • An 8-year-old car is a little cheaper to insure than a 3-year-old one.

Against it

  • The lowest price climbs by S$399.09 for a driver without a full NCD.
  • Some plans carry an excess of S$2,500 or more.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page gives these lowest prices:

Their average lowest price is S$773.50, and the Rush comes in 22% below that. None of the six is cheaper to insure. See the Toyota car insurance page for other Toyotas.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus what you pay at work, malls and the street.
  • Petrol: your mileage and the price at the pump.
  • ERP: the gantries you pass and when.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years.
  • Depreciation: what you pay set against what the car fetches later, which turns on its remaining COE.

None of these has a single figure, so track your own for a month or two.
