The new-car list shows the Toyota RAV4 as an SUV, with every version on it a hybrid. If you are pricing one up, the useful thing is to see each cost on its own: the price to buy, the COE, road tax and insurance. This guide does that, then lists the costs that depend on you.
The insurance prices are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote will turn on your details.
What is on sale, and what we price
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 shows the RAV4 as an SUV made in Japan. It carries three entries, all petrol-electric hybrids with a 2,487cc engine:
- RAV4 Hybrid 2.5 X: 176bhp
- RAV4 Hybrid 2.5 X: 215bhp, listed separately
- RAV4 Hybrid 2.5 Premium: 215bhp
Our quote form also covers older versions:
- RAV4 2.0: 1,987cc
- RAV4 2.4: 2,362cc
- RAV4 2.5: 2,487cc
The insurance, road tax and COE figures below are for the RAV4 2.4, the version most of our insurers quote. A new hybrid has a different engine size, so its road tax will differ. Quote the exact version you are buying.
The price to buy
As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:
- Hybrid 2.5 X (176bhp): S$215,900
- Hybrid 2.5 X (215bhp): S$228,800
- Hybrid 2.5 Premium: S$251,888
List prices move with each COE round. When you compare offers, check what each one includes, such as warranty and servicing, before you compare totals.
The COE
The price page states that the RAV4 2.4, with its 2,362cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
Each bidding round sets a new figure. The COE page shows the latest.
Road tax
For the 2.4's 2,362cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,636.72 a year, before any age surcharge.
Older cars pay a surcharge on top:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
For the 2.0, the 2.5 or a new hybrid, look up the engine size on the road tax page.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Toyota RAV4 price page prices this case:
- Car: RAV4 2.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
For that driver, 13 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$764.82. The insurer whose lowest plan sits highest asks at least S$1,754.76. That is S$989.94 more, or 129% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Three insurers on our panel have no online price. Two have none for this model yet, and one does not list the model on its online quote.
The excess
The excess is the share of each claim you pay yourself. Ten plans here carry S$600. Three sit at S$500 and three at S$800. Three ask S$2,500 and one asks S$3,000. One plan has none. That is a wide range, so look at it next to every premium.
How the price moves
The price page shows the lowest price with one change and everything else kept:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,098.76, S$333.94 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,098.76, S$333.94 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,098.76, S$333.94 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$764.82, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$787.96, S$23.14 more
- A car 8 years old: S$700.28, S$64.54 less
Losing the NCD is the costliest change, at 44% more on the lowest price. A driver with 20% NCD and a driver aged 27 pay the same as a driver with none. An older driver pays the same as the standard driver.
Car age shifts the price by much less. A new RAV4 2.4 costs S$23.14 more to insure at the lowest price, and an 8-year-old one S$64.54 less.
These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by different amounts.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page gives six comparisons:
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
- Audi RS 3 Sportback: S$1,310.08
- Mitsubishi Outlander: S$861.03
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Chevrolet Captiva: S$764.82
- Chevrolet Malibu: S$764.82
Their average lowest price is S$970.42. The RAV4 sits 21% below it. None of the six is cheaper to insure, and both Chevrolets match it. Other Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and at malls.
- Petrol: your mileage and pump prices. The new hybrids use an electric motor as well as petrol.

- Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. On a hybrid, ask what the warranty covers.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later in its COE life.
