Here is what you will pay to insure a Toyota Previa, and what else it costs to keep one on Singapore roads. The focus is the insurance: the spread of prices, the excesses and how the premium moves with the driver. Road tax and the COE come first, since they are fixed by the engine.
Every insurance figure is an example read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own price depends on your answers.
The version on our quote form
The new-car list has no entry for the Previa on sale now. So there is no list price, power or body type here. The quote form prices the Previa 2.4, with a 2,362cc engine, and all the figures below are for it.
COE and road tax
The price page states that the Previa 2.4, with its 2,362cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax for a 2,362cc engine comes to S$1,636.72 a year under LTA's formula, before any age surcharge. Cars past 10 years pay more:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
On a car this size, the surcharge adds a real sum each year. The road tax page has other engine sizes.
Here is what you will pay to insure it
The Toyota Previa price page prices one driver and car:
- Car: Previa 2.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
For that driver:
- Insurers that price it: 15
- Lowest premium: S$764.82
- Highest of the insurers' lowest plans: S$1,595.22
- Difference: S$830.40, or 109% more
All prices include 9% GST. Only one insurer on our panel has no online price for the Previa yet.
The same Previa, with the same driver, can cost more than double from one insurer to the next. That is a big enough gap to shop around every year at renewal.
Excesses
The excess is the amount you pay towards a claim. Twelve plans here carry S$600. Three sit at S$500, two at S$750 and three at S$800. At the top, three plans ask S$2,500 and one asks S$3,000. One plan carries no excess at all. So the excess varies about as much as the premium does.
How the premium moves
The price page changes one thing at a time and shows the lowest price:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,173.85, S$409.03 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,173.85, S$409.03 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,173.85, S$409.03 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$764.82, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$787.96, S$23.14 more
- A car 8 years old: S$700.28, S$64.54 less
Without an NCD, the lowest price goes up 53%. A driver with a 20% NCD, or a younger driver with 30%, lands on the same figure. An older driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting.
The car's age moves the price only a little. A new Previa costs S$23.14 more at the lowest price, and an 8-year-old one S$64.54 less.
These are the lowest prices only. Plans further up the list may change by other amounts.
Pros and cons on insurance cost
Pros
- The standard driver's lowest price is below the average of six similar cars.
- Almost every insurer we compare prices it online, so you have plenty of quotes to set side by side.
- Car age has a small effect, so an older example is not penalised.
Cons
- Losing your NCD, or adding a driver with a small one, pushes the floor up by more than half.
- The excess on some plans is high, up to S$3,000.
The Previa against similar cars
The price page compares six cars with similar engines, for the same driver and car age:
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
- Audi RS 3 Sportback: S$1,310.08
- Mitsubishi Outlander: S$861.03
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Chevrolet Captiva: S$764.82
- Chevrolet Malibu: S$764.82
Their average lowest price is S$970.42, and the Previa comes in 21% below it. None of the six is cheaper to insure, though both Chevrolets match it. The Toyota car insurance page lists other Toyotas.
What to check on a plan
- Workshop terms: these prices assume an authorised workshop.
- Excess: the figure for the main driver, and for any younger named driver.
- NCD protection: whether it is offered, and its cost.
- Who may drive: named drivers and any extra charge for them.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking where you live, plus parking at work and on outings.
- Petrol: your mileage and pump prices.
- ERP: the routes you use and when.
- Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later in its COE life.
The bottom line in figures
