Toyota Mark X in Singapore, the running costs and insurance laid out

What a Toyota Mark X costs to keep on Singapore roads: its COE category, road tax, age surcharge and car insurance for several drivers, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

The Toyota Mark X is a Toyota with a 2,500cc engine on our quote form. If you own one, or are thinking of taking one over, this piece sets out the costs that come with it in Singapore. It covers the COE, road tax and car insurance, then the costs that depend on how you use the car.

The insurance figures are examples, read on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver and car. Your own premium depends on your answers, so use these to see how the costs fit together, not as a quote.

Which Mark X this covers

The new-car list has no entry for the Mark X on sale now. That means this review gives no list price, power figure or body details from it. What we do have is our quote form, which carries two versions:

  • Mark X 2.5 G (A): 2,500cc
  • Mark X 250G: 2,499cc

The insurance prices below are for the 2.5 G (A). That is the version most insurers quote. Check which one is on your car's papers, since the quote form treats them as separate entries.

The COE it needs

Every car on Singapore roads carries a Certificate of Entitlement. The category depends on engine size and power. The price page states that the Mark X 2.5 G (A), with its 2,500cc engine, sits above 1,600cc and needs a Category B COE.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100. That figure moves every bidding round. The COE page shows the latest results. For a car already on the road, the COE it carries runs out on a fixed date, so check how many years are left before you agree a price.

Road tax

Road tax in Singapore is set by engine size. For the 2,500cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,798.60 a year, before any surcharge for age.

That surcharge matters for a model like this, since many cars on the road are no longer young. It starts once a car passes 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So the road tax on an older Mark X is noticeably higher than the base figure. Other engine sizes are on the road tax page.

Insuring it: the standard driver

The Toyota Mark X price page prices one set of details:

  • Car: Mark X 2.5 G (A), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver, 15 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$764.82. The insurer whose lowest plan sits highest asks at least S$1,568.09. That is S$803.27 more, or 105% on top of the lowest. Every price includes 9% GST.

The same driver and the same car can cost about twice as much from one insurer as from another. That gap is the plainest reason to compare before you renew.

One insurer on our panel has no online price for this model yet. If you have used it before, you would need to ask it directly.

What the excess does

Next to each premium sits an excess. It is the amount of a claim you pay yourself. On this page most plans carry S$600. The range runs from S$0 on one plan to S$3,000 on another. A low premium can come with a high excess, so read both figures together.

When the details change

The price page also shows the lowest price when one detail changes and the rest stay the same:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,071.87, S$307.05 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,071.87, S$307.05 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,071.87, S$307.05 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$764.82, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$787.96, S$23.14 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$700.28, S$64.54 less

The NCD is the big lever here. Without it, the lowest price rises by 40%. A young driver with a smaller NCD lands at the same figure. An older Mark X, on the other hand, costs a little less to insure than a 3-year-old one at the lowest price.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by different amounts, and fewer insurers may quote some of these cases.

Next to similar cars

The price page sets the Mark X beside six cars with engines of a similar size. Here is each one's lowest price for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$970.42. The Mark X comes in 21% below that. None of the six costs less to insure, and the two Chevrolets match it. Only a few insurers price the two Audis. Other Toyota models are on the Toyota car insurance page.

Costs that depend on how you use it

Some costs vary too much between owners to put a figure on.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus what you pay at work, malls and the street.
  • Petrol: set by how far you go and the pump price on the day.
  • ERP: depends on the roads you use and when.
  • Servicing and repairs: tyres, brakes and a battery come up over the years. Ask for the service history when you take one over.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses in value depends on what you pay and how much COE life is left.

The yearly figures in one place

For the Mark X 2.5 G (A), with the dates shown:

  • Road tax: S$1,798.60 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$764.82 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,071.87
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$700.28

And for reference, the Category B COE closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
