The Toyota Ist S is the 1,497cc version of the Ist hatchback. It has left the new-car list, so you are likely to be looking at a used one. The useful question is what it costs each year. Below are the costs we have figures for, then the ones that depend on you.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide for comparison, not a quote.
The Ist S on our form
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now, so we show no list price. Our quote form has one version:
- Ist S: 1,497cc
The figures here are for the Ist S, which most of our insurers quote.
COE category
With a 1,497cc engine, the Ist S falls in a category set by power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.
The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page has later rounds. For a used car, the COE is already paid; its expiry date is what to check.
Road tax each year
LTA's formula sets road tax by engine size. For the 1,497cc Ist S, it is S$682.50 a year, before any age surcharge.
Once a car is over 10 years old, the surcharge adds:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page shows how other engine sizes compare. Check the registration date of any used Ist S you look at.
The insurance example
The Toyota Ist S price page prices one car and driver:
- Car: Ist S, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office work, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, nothing added
For that case, 10 insurers price it. The lowest is S$604.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,256.57, which is S$652.50 more, or 108% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Six insurers on our panel have no online price for the Ist S. Ten quotes still show a gap of more than double between the lowest price and the dearest insurer.
Check that every quote you compare uses the same cover. The price page assumes comprehensive cover, an authorised workshop and no add-ons. A quote with a different workshop choice, or with extras such as NCD protection, is not a like-for-like match. The quote form lets you change each answer and see what it does to the price.
How much of a claim you pay
Each plan carries an excess, the amount you pay towards a claim. On this page it runs from S$500 to S$800, with S$600 on most plans. The range is narrow here, but it still pays to read it next to each premium. A small claim that costs less than the excess is one you would pay in full yourself.
What changes the lowest price
The price page changes one thing at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$976.44, S$372.37 more
- 20% NCD: S$976.44, S$372.37 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$976.44, S$372.37 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$604.07, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
- A car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less
Losing the NCD costs the most. With none, the lowest price is 62% more. The 20% NCD and the younger driver come out at the same figure. The driver of 65 pays the same as the driver of 40. An older car is a little cheaper at the lowest price. Other plans may move by more or less, so check the full list.
How it compares with similar cars
The price page sets six cars beside the Ist S, for the same driver and car age:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class: S$749.93
Their average lowest price is S$773.50. The Ist S is 22% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. Other Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page.
Owner costs with no single figure
These depend on how and where you drive.
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town. Check the rate where you live.
- Petrol: set by your mileage and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the time of day.
- Servicing and repairs: regular servicing, and tyres, brakes and a battery as they wear. Ask a seller for the service record.
- Depreciation: what you lose depends on your buying price, the COE years left and the sale price.
