Toyota Ist A ownership costs in Singapore, with insurance prices

The Toyota Ist A in Singapore: its COE category, yearly road tax and car insurance examples for one stated driver, each one dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

If a Toyota Ist A has caught your eye, this page sets out what it costs to keep in Singapore. It is not sold new any more, so the figures are about running one. We cover the COE, road tax and insurance in turn, then the costs we cannot put a figure on.

Each insurance price is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Treat them as a way to compare, not as the price you will get.

The version priced

There is no new-car list entry for the Ist A on sale now, so no list price is given. Our quote form has one version:

  • Ist A: 1,299cc

All the figures that follow are for that version, the one most of our insurers quote.

The COE

For the Ist A and its 1,299cc engine, the category turns on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Every round sets new figures; see the COE page for the latest. If you buy used, the COE comes with the car, so check the years left.

Road tax

Road tax follows engine size under LTA's formula. For the 1,299cc Ist A, it is S$566.36 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge starts after the tenth year:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Because this model is no longer sold new, check where any car you look at sits on that scale. The road tax page has the sums for other engines.

Insurance on the price page

The Toyota Ist A price page prices this driver and car:

  • Car: Ist A, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: 40 years old, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

On those details, 11 insurers price it. The lowest is S$604.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,249.45, which is S$645.38 more, or 107% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Five insurers on our panel have no online price for the Ist A. The others still show a wide spread, with the top more than twice the bottom.

To compare fairly, make sure each quote uses the same answers. The page assumes comprehensive cover, an authorised workshop and no extras. Change one and the price changes with it.

The excess on each plan

The excess is the part of a claim you pay. Here it goes from S$500 to S$2,500, and S$600 is the most common. Two plans with similar premiums can differ a lot on excess, so check it beside the price. A small claim, such as a scrape in a car park, may cost less than a high excess, and then the plan pays nothing.

Changing one detail

The price page shows the lowest price with a single change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$963.58, S$359.51 more
  • 20% NCD: S$963.58, S$359.51 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$963.58, S$359.51 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$604.07, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less

The NCD is the detail that counts most. Without it, the lowest price is 60% more. The 20% NCD and the younger driver both land on that same figure. The 65-year-old pays what the 40-year-old pays. The older car is a little cheaper. These are lowest prices; other plans may react differently, so read down the full list on the price page.

Beside similar cars

The price page lines up six cars for the same driver and car age:

The six average S$694.41 at their lowest price. The Ist A is 13% below that. Two are cheaper to insure, the two Nissans, and the Honda Jazz / Fit is close behind it. Other Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page.

What is down to the owner

These costs vary too much to give one figure.

  • Parking: season parking where you live, plus parking at work and when out. Ask your HDB or condo office for the rate.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and pump prices.
  • ERP: set by your routes and the hours you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: regular servicing, then tyres, brakes and a battery over time. Ask a seller for the records.
  • Depreciation: turns on what you pay, the COE years left and the price you sell at.

The figures in one list

For the Ist A, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$566.36 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, price page driver: from S$604.07 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$963.58
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$552.91

For a new COE in the October 2026 1st round: S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B).
