Toyota Harrier ownership costs in Singapore against its rivals

The Toyota Harrier in Singapore: list prices, COE, road tax and dated insurance examples, set against six similar cars from its price page.

20 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

The Toyota Harrier sits among a crowd of mid-size SUVs and premium saloons. If you are weighing it against those, the costs you can pin down are COE, road tax and insurance. This guide puts dated figures on each and then lines the Harrier up against six similar cars.

All insurance figures are examples for one standard driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a way to compare, not a quote for you.

What is on sale, and what is insured

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has two Harrier versions. Both are petrol-electric SUVs made in Japan, with a 2,487cc engine and 215bhp:

  • Harrier Hybrid 2.5 G: listed at S$260,400
  • Harrier Hybrid 2.5 Premium: listed at S$262,888

Those are as listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day. Dealer prices change with COE rounds, so ask for a current figure.

Our quote form lists eight Harrier versions, because many older cars are on the road. They range from 2.0 versions of 1,986cc and 1,998cc to a 2.4, a 2.5 and a Hybrid 3.3 of 3,310cc. The insurance prices below are for the Harrier 2.0 E Panoramic (1,986cc), the version most insurers quote. Prices for the newer hybrid may differ.

COE and road tax

COE. The price page states that with a 1,986cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Harrier 2.0 E Panoramic needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100. The COE page has later results.

Road tax. For the 1,986cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,195.68 a year before any age surcharge. The current hybrids have a larger engine, so their road tax is higher. You can check any engine size on the road tax page.

The age surcharge applies to cars over 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Insurance for the standard driver

The Toyota Harrier price page uses these details:

  • Car: Harrier 2.0 E Panoramic, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

15 insurers price it, and only one on our panel has no online price yet. The lowest premium is S$742.90. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,550.70. That gap is S$807.80, or 109% more. All prices include 9% GST.

Excess. Most plans ask S$600. The range runs from S$0 to S$3,000. The second-lowest premium carries a S$2,500 excess, so look at both numbers together.

Workshops. The lowest plan allows any workshop or authorised workshops. Most others on the page are for authorised workshops.

How the Harrier's price moves

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,228.81, S$485.91 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,228.81, S$485.91 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,228.81, S$485.91 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, the same, 14 insurers pricing
  • A new car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more, 14 insurers pricing
  • A car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less

No NCD is the costliest change, at 65% more on the lowest price. A younger driver lands on the same figure. An older Harrier is cheaper to insure at the lowest price. These are lowest prices; other plans may shift differently.

Rival one: Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class price page prices a 1,991cc car. Its lowest price for the same driver and car age is S$861.03, with 14 insurers pricing. That is above the Harrier's S$742.90.

Rival two: BMW 5 Series

The BMW 5 Series is priced at 1,998cc. Its lowest price is also S$861.03, with 15 insurers. Again, the Harrier costs less to insure on these details.

Rival three: Lexus NX

The Lexus NX, at 1,998cc, has a lowest price of S$972.39 from 14 insurers. It sits above the Harrier.

Rival four: Lexus RX

The Lexus RX price page also prices a 1,998cc car. Its lowest price matches the NX at S$972.39, with 14 insurers.

Rival five: Mercedes-Benz GLC

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is priced at 1,991cc. Its lowest price is S$925.60, from 14 insurers.

Rival six: BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 Series, at 1,998cc, has a lowest price of S$1,009.11 from 15 insurers. It is the dearest of the six to insure here.

How they compare at a glance

  • Toyota Harrier: S$742.90, 15 insurers
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03, 14 insurers
  • BMW 5 Series: S$861.03, 15 insurers
  • Mercedes-Benz GLC: S$925.60, 14 insurers
  • Lexus NX: S$972.39, 14 insurers
  • Lexus RX: S$972.39, 14 insurers
  • BMW 3 Series: S$1,009.11, 15 insurers

The six rivals average S$933.59 at their lowest price. The Harrier costs 20% less than that, and none of them is cheaper to insure. More Toyota models are on the Toyota car insurance page.

Who each suits on cost

On insurance alone, the Harrier gives the lowest starting price of this group for the standard driver. The E-Class and 5 Series come next and match each other. The two Lexus models and the 3 Series sit higher. These are lowest prices for one driver, so a young driver or a lost NCD could change the order.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking where you live and work.
  • Petrol: set by your mileage and pump prices. The current versions are hybrids.
  • ERP: depends on routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. Check the warranty.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay and what the car fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
