The Toyota Crown carries a 2.5-litre engine, and that shapes several of its running costs. If you are weighing one up, this page goes through the list price, the COE, road tax and car insurance.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium depends on your details.
The Crown versions
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has four Crown versions, all petrol-electric with a 2,487cc engine. The list gives the body type as SUV, made in Japan.
- Crown Crossover Hybrid 2.5 G: 184bhp
- Crown Crossover Hybrid 2.5 Z: 184bhp
- Crown Hybrid 2.5 Sport Z: 231bhp
- Crown Hybrid 2.5 Sport Z 70th Anniversary Edition: 231bhp
Our quote form lists the Crown 2.5 Sport Z and the Crown 2.5 Sport Z 70th Anniversary Edition. The insurance figures below are for the Crown 2.5 Sport Z, which most of our insurers quote.
List prices
As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:
- Crown Crossover Hybrid 2.5 G: S$285,800
- Crown Crossover Hybrid 2.5 Z: S$288,800
- Crown Hybrid 2.5 Sport Z: S$305,800
- Crown Hybrid 2.5 Sport Z 70th Anniversary Edition: S$303,000
List prices change with each COE round. A dealer's figure today may be different, so check what each offer includes.
COE
With a 2,487cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Crown 2.5 Sport Z needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.
The result changes each round. The COE page shows the latest.
Road tax on 2,487cc
For a 2,487cc engine, LTA's formula gives road tax of S$1,783.36 a year, before any age surcharge. This was checked on 2026-10-19.
Older cars pay a surcharge on top:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The larger engine puts the Crown's road tax well above that of a small car. The road tax page shows how it compares with other sizes.
Insurance: who prices it and for how much
The Toyota Crown price page prices one example:
- Car: Crown 2.5 Sport Z, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years' driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
Only 9 insurers price it. Seven others on our panel have no online price for the Crown, or do not list it. The lowest premium is S$921.38 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,622.76, which is S$701.38 more, or 76% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
With fewer insurers quoting online, it can be worth asking the others directly too.
The excess
The excess is the amount you pay towards a claim. On the Crown page, most plans carry S$600. Others carry S$500 or S$800, and one has none. The spread of excesses is narrower here than for many cars.
Several prices are marked as estimates. Confirm those with the insurer before you rely on them.
When something changes
The page shows the lowest price with one detail different:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,212.45, S$291.07 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,212.45, S$291.07 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,212.45, S$291.07 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,006.88, S$85.50 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$949.10, S$27.72 more
- A car 8 years old: S$877.00, S$44.38 less
Losing the NCD raises the lowest price by 32%, the most of any change here. The NCD is built over claim-free years. An older driver also pays more for the Crown, which is not the case for every car.
These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by more or less.

- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Ask what the warranty covers, including the hybrid parts.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car is worth later, over its COE life.
