Toyota Corolla Touring, the costs of keeping one in Singapore

Keeping a Toyota Corolla Touring 1.8 S in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax and dated insurance prices from 11 insurers for one driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Corolla Touring is not on the new-car list we hold, so if you are looking at one in Singapore, it is likely a used car. This page shows the yearly costs, and what makes them rise or fall.

All insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your price will depend on your own answers.

The versions on our form

Two versions are on our quote form, both with a 1,797cc engine:

  • Corolla Touring 1.8 S
  • Corolla Touring 1.8 X

We priced the 1.8 S, the version most of our insurers quote. As there is no new-car list entry, this review gives no list price.

The COE it needs

With a 1,797cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Corolla Touring 1.8 S needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.

The figure changes with every round; see the COE page for the latest. On a used car, the COE is already paid. Check how many years remain on it.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,797cc engine a road tax of S$973.98 a year, before any age surcharge. It was checked on 2026-10-19.

Once a car is more than 10 years old, the surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Other engine sizes are on the road tax page.

Car insurance for one standard driver

The Toyota Corolla Touring price page prices this example:

  • The car: Corolla Touring 1.8 S, registered 3 years ago, private use
  • The cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop repairs, no options
  • The driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years' driving
  • The record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims

11 insurers price the car. The lowest premium is S$764.42 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,525.40. That is S$760.98 more, or 100% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

So the dearest of the insurers' lowest plans is twice the lowest premium. Five insurers on our panel have no online price for the Touring yet, which narrows the field.

The excess

The excess is the share of a claim you pay. Most plans here carry S$600. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800. One carries S$2,500, and one has no excess.

Two plans can look close on premium and still differ on excess. Check both.

Estimates and dates

Some prices are marked as estimates. Each price also has an "as at" date: the day the insurer's price table was read. A price dated today comes from live rates.

What moves the premium

The page re-runs the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • 0% NCD: S$1,017.12, up S$252.70
  • 20% NCD: S$1,017.12, up S$252.70
  • Aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,017.12, up S$252.70
  • Aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$907.45, up S$143.03
  • New car, registered this year: S$855.38, up S$90.96
  • Car 8 years old: S$755.54, down S$8.88

Losing the NCD has the largest effect, a 33% rise in the lowest price. NCD builds with claim-free years and usually falls after a claim.

Two other points stand out. An older driver pays more here, not the same. And a brand-new Touring costs noticeably more to insure than a 3-year-old one, while an 8-year-old one costs only a little less.

These are lowest prices. Dearer plans may move differently.

Next to similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$783.18. The Touring is 2% below it. Three of the six, the Kona, the Avante and the Cerato, are cheaper to insure. Other Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page, and a wider ranking is on this list.

Before you buy one

On a used Touring, a few questions shape the bill more than the badge:

  • How long is left on the COE? That is how long the car can stay on the road before you renew or deregister.
  • When was it first registered? Past 10 years, road tax picks up a surcharge that grows each year.
  • Will your NCD carry over? An NCD from your current car usually moves with you and lowers the premium.
  • What do several insurers quote? Ask with your own details, and compare the excess on each.

Costs you set yourself

These depend on the owner, so no figures are given.

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus charges at work and elsewhere.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on where you go and when.
  • Servicing and wear: routine servicing, then tyres, brakes and a battery. Ask for the service record on a used car, and whether any warranty is left.
  • Depreciation: shaped by what you pay, the COE years left and the value when you sell.
