Toyota Corolla Fielder costs to own in Singapore

The Toyota Corolla Fielder 1.5X in Singapore: yearly road tax, the COE category test and dated car insurance prices for one driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Toyota Corolla Fielder is a Corolla that you will find in Singapore as a used car. For anyone looking at one, the regular bills are road tax and insurance, and the COE sets how long the car can stay registered.

This review takes each in turn. The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide, not your quote.

The Fielder on our form

The Corolla Fielder has no entry on the new-car list we hold, so no list price is given. Our quote form prices the Corolla Fielder 1.5X, with a 1,497cc engine. Most of our insurers quote this version, and every figure below is for it.

COE: which category

The Fielder 1.5X has a 1,497cc engine, so its category depends on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs Category B.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 in Category A and S$130,100 in Category B. Results change each round, and the COE page has the newest.

On a used Fielder, check how long the COE has left. That decides how many years you can drive the car before you renew or deregister.

Road tax on the 1.5X

For a 1,497cc engine, LTA's formula comes to S$682.50 a year, before any age surcharge. The figure was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge grows as the car ages past 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

See the road tax page for other engine sizes.

The insurance picture

The Toyota Corolla Fielder price page prices one case:

  • The driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years' driving
  • The record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • The car: Corolla Fielder 1.5X, registered 3 years ago, private use
  • The cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop repairs, no options

For that case, 15 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$604.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,343.01. That is S$738.94 more, or 122% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That puts the dearest insurer's lowest plan at more than twice the lowest premium. It is a big spread for a single driver and car.

The excess on each plan

The excess is the part of any claim you pay yourself. Most Fielder plans carry S$600. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800, and one carries S$0. A handful sit at S$2,500 or S$3,000.

A plan with a low premium and a high excess can work out dearer if you claim. Compare the two figures together.

When a price was read

Each price has an "as at" date, which is when the insurer's price table was read. A price with today's date comes from live rates. Prices marked as estimates are worth confirming with the insurer.

What the price is sensitive to

The page re-prices the Fielder with one detail changed:

  • No NCD (0%): S$976.44, S$372.37 more
  • 20% NCD: S$976.44, S$372.37 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$976.44, S$372.37 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$604.07, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less

The NCD carries the most weight. Without it, the lowest price is 62% higher. The NCD grows with each claim-free year and usually falls after a claim. Car age makes only a small difference, and an older Fielder is slightly cheaper to insure.

These are lowest prices. Other plans may move by more or less.

Similar cars, side by side

For the same driver and car age, the page sets out six similar cars:

The six average S$773.50. The Fielder sits 22% below that, and none of them is cheaper to insure. More Toyotas are on the Toyota car insurance page, and a wider ranking is on this list.

Questions worth asking

On any used Fielder, these answers shape the cost more than the badge does:

  • How long is left on the COE? Fewer years means less time to spread the purchase price over.
  • When was it registered? Past 10 years, road tax carries a surcharge that grows each year.
  • Does your NCD carry over? An NCD from your current car usually moves with you and lowers the premium.
  • What do the quotes say? Ask more than one insurer, with your own details, and check each excess.

Costs you will need to estimate

These depend on the owner, so there is no single figure.

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus parking at work and on outings.
  • Petrol: tied to your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: tied to your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and wear: routine servicing, then tyres, brakes and a battery. Ask for the car's service history.
  • Depreciation: shaped by what you pay, the COE years left and what the car fetches at the end.

The yearly figures

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$976.44
