The Corolla Axio is a compact sedan that you will find on Singapore's used-car market. If you are pricing one up, the yearly costs matter as much as the asking price. This page covers the COE, road tax and car insurance, and what makes each go up or down.
All insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own quote will reflect your details.
The Axio we priced
There is no entry for the Corolla Axio on the new-car list we hold, so there is no list price here. Our quote form prices the Corolla Axio 1.5G CVT, with a 1,496cc engine. That is the version most of our insurers quote.
COE category
A 1,496cc engine puts the Corolla Axio 1.5G CVT under the power test. With power of 97kW (130bhp) or less, it needs a Category A COE. With more, it needs Category B.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Every round brings new results; the COE page keeps the latest.
If you buy used, the COE is already on the car. Its remaining years tell you how long you can keep driving it before you renew or deregister.
Road tax
LTA's formula sets the road tax for a 1,496cc engine at S$681.90 a year. That is before any age surcharge, checked on 2026-10-19.
The surcharge starts after 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page has the figures for other engine sizes.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Toyota Corolla Axio price page prices a single example:
- Car: Corolla Axio 1.5G CVT, registered 3 years ago, private use
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years' driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop, no options
15 insurers price this example. The lowest premium is S$604.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,313.03, which is S$708.96 more, or 117% on top. Prices include 9% GST.
In other words, the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs more than twice the lowest premium. One driver, one car, and a wide range.
Excess and fine print
The excess is the sum you pay first on any claim. Most plans for the Axio carry S$600. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800, and one has none. A few reach S$2,500 or S$3,000.
Two plans with similar premiums can differ a lot on excess. Look at both before you choose.
Each price also has an "as at" date, the day the insurer's price table was read. Some are marked as estimates, so confirm those with the insurer.
How the price responds
Holding all else the same, the page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$953.92, S$349.85 more
- 20% NCD: S$953.92, S$349.85 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$953.92, S$349.85 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$604.07, unchanged
- Car registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
- Car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less
The NCD has the most effect. Without it, the lowest price is 58% higher. NCD is earned through claim-free years and usually drops after a claim, so it is worth protecting.
An older Axio costs a little less to insure at the lowest price, and a newer one a little more. These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by other amounts.
How it compares with similar cars
The price page lines up six similar cars for the same driver and car age:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class: S$749.93
Those six average S$773.50. The Corolla Axio is 22% below that, and none is cheaper to insure. The Toyota car insurance page has more Toyota models.
Before you commit
A few checks will tell you more about what a particular Axio will cost you:
- COE years remaining: these set how long the car can run before you renew or deregister.
- Registration date: once past 10 years, the road tax surcharge kicks in and rises each year.
- Your NCD: if you hold one on your current car, it usually moves with you and brings the premium down.
- Several quotes: get prices with your own details from more than one insurer, and read the excess on each.
Costs that depend on how you live
No single figure fits these, so none is given.
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and elsewhere. Check your car park's rates.
- Petrol: depends on your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the times you use them.
- Servicing and repairs: routine servicing, then tyres, brakes and a battery over time. On a used car, ask for its service record.
- Depreciation: what you pay, the COE years left and the value when you sell or deregister.
