Suzuki SX4 running costs and car insurance in Singapore

Costs for a Suzuki SX4 in Singapore: COE category, yearly road tax and dated car insurance examples for one stated driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

If a Suzuki SX4 is on your shortlist, or already in your car park, this page lays out the costs that can be pinned to a number. You will find the COE, road tax and car insurance, followed by the costs that come down to how you use the car.

The insurance figures here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your details. Take them as a guide to the range, not a quote.

SX4 versions

There is no new-car list entry for the SX4 on sale now, so this page gives no list price. Our quote form carries five versions:

  • SX4 1.5: 1,490cc
  • SX4 1.5 (A) HB: 1,586cc
  • SX4 1.6: 1,586cc
  • SX4 1.6 Saloon: 1,586cc
  • SX4 1.6 VVT: 1,586cc

The figures below are for the SX4 1.5 with its 1,490cc engine, the version most of our insurers quote. The 1,586cc versions pay a different road tax.

COE

For the SX4 1.5, the price page says the COE category turns on power. With its 1,490cc engine, it needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest. On a used SX4, look at the years left on its COE.

Road tax

Road tax depends on engine size. For the 1,490cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$678.38 a year, before any age surcharge. It was checked on 2026-10-19.

Once a car is more than 10 years old, a surcharge is added:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Check the car's registration date so you know where it stands. The road tax page covers the 1,586cc engine and other sizes.

Insurance for the example driver

The Suzuki SX4 price page prices one case:

  • Car: SX4 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

14 insurers price the SX4 online for that driver. Two on our panel have no online price for it yet.

The lowest premium is S$622.34. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,298.10. That is S$675.76 more, or 109% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That means the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs more than twice the lowest premium. Two quotes for the same SX4 and the same driver can be far apart.

Excess

Each plan has an excess, which you pay first when you claim. On this page S$600 is the most common figure. The excesses run from S$0 to S$3,000, with plans at S$500, S$750, S$800 and S$2,500 in between. Compare excesses as well as premiums.

What changes the price

The price page shows the lowest price when one thing changes, with all else kept the same:

  • No NCD (0%): S$913.82, S$291.48 more
  • 20% NCD: S$913.82, S$291.48 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$913.82, S$291.48 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$622.34, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$642.42, S$20.08 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$569.36, S$52.98 less

The NCD is the big one. With none, the lowest price rises by 47%. At 20% NCD the lowest price is the same as with none. The younger driver ends up there as well.

For a driver with long experience, the price holds steady. An SX4 8 years old costs S$52.98 less than the example car. These are lowest prices only; other plans can move by different amounts.

Against similar cars

The price page sets the SX4 against six cars with engines of a similar size. Each is priced for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The SX4 costs 15% less. Of the six, only the Toyota Sienta is cheaper to insure for this driver. The Corolla Altis and the Freed sit just above the SX4.

Other Suzuki models are on the Suzuki car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

Some costs cannot carry one figure, because they turn on your own use.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when you go out.
  • Petrol: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the time of day.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery fall due over the years. On a used car, ask for its service record.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what the car fetches later.

Yearly costs with a figure

For the SX4 1.5, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$678.38 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$622.34 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$913.82
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$569.36

For reference, the October 2026 1st round COE: S$130,001 (Category A) and S$130,100 (Category B).
