What it takes to run a Suzuki Ignis in Singapore

The Suzuki Ignis in Singapore: COE rules, yearly road tax and car insurance examples for one stated driver, all dated October 2026.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

A small car can still carry big fixed costs in Singapore. This page sets out what a Suzuki Ignis costs where a figure is available: the COE, road tax and car insurance. It ends with the costs that turn on your own use.

Insurance figures here are examples, read from our price page on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver. Your quote will reflect your own answers. Use these to see the range and what drives it.

Ignis versions on the form

The new-car list has no Ignis on sale now. That means there is no list price to give. Our quote form carries three versions:

  • Ignis 1.2 D: 1,327cc
  • Ignis 1.3: 1,328cc
  • Ignis 1.5: 1,489cc

The figures below are for the 1.2 D, the version most of our insurers quote.

The COE

With a 1,327cc engine, the Ignis 1.2 D's COE category turns on its power. The price page puts it this way. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. These shift with each round, so see the COE page for the latest. On a used Ignis, the remaining COE years matter more than the round results.

Road tax

Road tax is based on engine capacity. For the 1.2 D's 1,327cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$582.78 a year, before any age surcharge. The figure was checked on 2026-10-19.

Once a car passes 10 years, a surcharge is added:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The 1.5 has a larger engine and pays a little more. The road tax page works out other sizes.

Insurance for the example driver

The Suzuki Ignis price page prices one set of details:

  • Car: Ignis 1.2 D, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

12 insurers price the Ignis online for that driver. A few others have no online price for it yet. One lists the model only with a different engine or fuel, so its price would be for another car.

The lowest premium is S$799.97. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,156.68. That is S$356.71 more, or 45% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

So even on a small car, the gap between insurers runs to hundreds of dollars a year for the same cover.

The excess on each plan

Each plan has an excess: the part of a claim you pay yourself. On this page S$600 is the most common figure. The range runs from S$0 to S$2,500, with some plans at S$500, S$750 and S$800. A lower premium can come with a higher excess. Compare the two together.

How the price moves

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes, with the rest unchanged:

  • No NCD (0%): S$919.79, S$119.82 more
  • 20% NCD: S$919.79, S$119.82 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$919.79, S$119.82 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$874.15, S$74.18 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$811.34, S$11.37 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$754.05, S$45.92 less

Losing your NCD costs the most of these, at 15% on the lowest price. A younger driver with less experience lands at the same figure. An older driver also pays more than the example driver, though by less.

The car's age moves the price only a little. A new Ignis costs slightly more to insure, and one 8 years old slightly less. These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans can move by different amounts.

Next to similar cars

The price page compares the Ignis with six cars with engines of a similar size. Each is priced for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$753.91. The Ignis costs 6% more than that. Four of the six are cheaper to insure for this driver. Only the Mazda 3 and the BMW X1 cost more.

The list shows that engine size alone does not set the premium. Several cars here with larger engines cost less to insure than the Ignis.

Other Suzuki models are on the Suzuki car insurance page.

Costs that rest with you

Some costs depend on your own use, so there is no single figure.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus what you pay elsewhere.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and pump prices.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the hours you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come up over the years.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left, and what the car fetches later.

The yearly figures we can show

For the Ignis 1.2 D, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$582.78 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$799.97 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$919.79
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$754.05

For reference, the COE in the October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 (Category A) and S$130,100 (Category B).
