Suzuki Solio 1.2 costs in Singapore, from COE to car insurance

Suzuki Solio 1.2 in Singapore: COE category, road tax and dated car insurance examples for one stated driver, with what moves the price.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Suzuki Solio has a small 1.2-litre engine, and that keeps some of its fixed costs low. This page puts figures on what can be pinned down for a Solio in Singapore: the COE, road tax and insurance. It then lists the costs that depend on you.

The insurance figures are examples, read from our price page on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver. Use them to see the range and what moves it. They are not a quote.

The Solio on our quote form

The new-car list has no Solio on sale now. So there is no list price to show. Our quote form prices one version:

  • Solio 1.2: 1,242cc

All figures below are for that car.

COE

For a 1,242cc engine, the price page says the category turns on power. The Solio 1.2 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The COE page has the newest results. For a used car, the COE years left are what count.

Road tax

A small engine means a modest road tax bill. For 1,242cc, LTA's formula gives S$532.94 a year, before any age surcharge. The formula was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has figures for other engines.

Car insurance for the example driver

The Suzuki Solio price page prices one case:

  • Car: Solio 1.2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

14 insurers price the Solio online. Only two on our panel have no online price for it yet.

The lowest premium is S$569.36. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,222.19. That is S$652.83 more, or 115% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So the spread is wider than the premium itself. Paying the dearer figure for the same cover would more than double the bill.

Check the excess

The excess is the sum you pay first on any claim. On this page S$600 is the most common figure, and the range runs from S$0 to S$3,000. Plans at S$500, S$750, S$800 and S$2,500 fall in between. A low premium with a high excess can cost more in a year you claim. Weigh the two together.

What moves the lowest price

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes and the rest stays the same:

  • No NCD (0%): S$889.48, S$320.12 more
  • 20% NCD: S$889.48, S$320.12 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$889.48, S$320.12 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$569.36, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$586.41, S$17.05 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$24.36 less

The NCD is the main lever. Losing it adds 56% to the lowest price. A partial NCD of 20% does not help here: it lands at the same figure as none at all. The younger driver lands there too.

An older driver pays the same as the example driver. The car's age moves the price only a little in either direction. These are lowest prices only; dearer plans may move by different sums.

Against similar cars

The price page lines the Solio up against six cars with engines of a similar size. Each is priced for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$688.21. The Solio costs 17% less than that. Only one of the six, the Toyota C-HR, is cheaper to insure for this driver. The three Mercedes-Benz models all come in at S$787.96. The Honda Jazz / Fit and Nissan Qashqai sit closer to the Solio. Use the links to see each car's full list of prices for the same driver.

Other Suzuki models are on the Suzuki car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

Some costs vary so much between owners that no one figure fits.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when you are out.
  • Petrol: depends on your mileage and the pump price on the day.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the hours you travel.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due over time. With a used car, ask for its service history.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what the car fetches later.

Yearly costs at a glance

For the Solio 1.2, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$532.94 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$569.36 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$889.48
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$545.00

For reference, the October 2026 1st round COE: S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B.
