Seat Leon costs in Singapore, from road tax to car insurance

Seat Leon 1.2 TSI costs in Singapore: road tax, the COE category rule and car insurance from 12 insurers for one standard driver, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Seat Leon has been sold in Singapore with engines from 999cc to 1,984cc. That range matters for road tax, so it is worth knowing exactly which one you have. This page uses the 1.2 TSI, the version most insurers quote, and goes through the COE rule, road tax and car insurance from 12 insurers.

Insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your details.

Six versions on our form

There is no Leon on the new-car list we read, so this page has no list price. Our quote form lists six versions:

  • Leon 1.0 TSI: 999cc
  • Leon 1.2 TSI: 1,197cc
  • Leon 1.4 Stella: 1,389cc
  • Leon 1.4 TSI: 1,390cc
  • Leon 1.5: 1,498cc
  • Leon 2.0 Cupra - Hatchback: 1,984cc

All the insurance prices below are for the 1.2 TSI.

COE

For the Leon 1.2 TSI, with a 1,197cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
  • Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round

On a used car, the COE has been paid. The years left on it shape what you pay. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,197cc engine a road tax of S$506.54 a year, before any age surcharge. The larger versions pay more, and the 2.0 Cupra a good deal more. Look them up on the road tax page.

A surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Insurance for the Leon

The Seat Leon price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Leon 1.2 TSI, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

The range

12 insurers price it. Four on our panel do not: three have no online price for the model yet, and one does not list it.

The lowest premium is S$721.59 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,619.26, which is S$897.67 more, or 124% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The excess, side by side

The two lowest premiums are very close, but their excesses are not: S$600 against S$2,500. Most other plans carry S$600. Others carry S$500 or S$800, a few S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one has none. A close premium with a much higher excess is a different deal, so compare both figures.

Several prices are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,003.16, S$281.57 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,003.16, S$281.57 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,003.16, S$281.57 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$721.59, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$703.24, S$18.35 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$660.69, S$60.90 less

No NCD, 20% NCD and the younger driver all give the same lowest price, 39% above the standard driver. The older driver pays the same as the standard profile, with 11 insurers quoting.

Car age gives an unexpected result here. A new Leon is S$18.35 cheaper to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one, because a different insurer sets the lowest price for the new car. An 8-year-old Leon is cheaper still.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.

What to check

  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Any-workshop plans may cost a different amount.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive and what a younger driver adds.
  • NCD protection: an add-on on some plans, not included here.
  • Right version: make sure each quote is for your Leon's engine, since the versions differ widely.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$688.21. The Leon, at S$721.59, is 5% above it. Three of the six, the Jazz, the Qashqai and the C-HR, cost less to insure, and the three Mercedes-Benz models cost more. Other Seat models are on the Seat car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. On a used car, ask for the service history.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what you sell for.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
