Renault Megane SPRT Tourer in Singapore, yearly costs explained

The Renault Megane SPRT Tourer in Singapore: road tax on its 1,598cc engine, the COE rule and car insurance from 13 insurers for one driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

If a Renault Megane SPRT Tourer is on your shortlist, or already in your car park, this page gives you the yearly figures we can show. It runs through the COE rule, the road tax and what 13 insurers ask for cover. After that come the costs that depend on you.

Every insurance figure is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Use it to see the range, not as your quote.

The car we priced

The new-car list we read has no Megane SPRT Tourer on sale, so there is no list price here. Our quote form prices it as one version, the Megane SPRT Tourer with a 1,598cc engine.

Which COE category

The price page states the rule for its 1,598cc engine:

  • Category A: if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. That closed at S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
  • Category B: if its power is more. That closed at S$130,100 in the same round.

Buying used, you take over the COE already on the car. The years it has left are part of the price, so ask before you agree a deal. Latest results are on the COE page.

Road tax each year

For the 1,598cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$741.72 a year, before any age surcharge.

If the car is more than 10 years old, add the surcharge for its band:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Other engine sizes are on the road tax page.

What insurers charge

The Renault Megane SPRT Tourer price page uses this profile:

  • Car: Megane SPRT Tourer, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

Lowest to dearest

13 insurers price the car online. Three on our panel have no online price for it yet.

The lowest premium is S$700.28 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,543.54, which is S$843.26 more, or 120% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The dearest insurer's lowest plan is more than double the lowest premium. That is a big sum to leave on the table by not comparing.

Excess on these plans

No plan here goes above S$800. S$600 is the most common figure, with others at S$500, S$750 or S$800, and one plan at none. Even so, a gap of a few hundred dollars in excess is worth noting when two premiums are close. If you claim once, the plan with the lower excess could end up costing you less, even with a slightly higher premium.

Several prices are marked as estimates. Check those on the insurer's own site before you buy.

Changes that move the lowest price

The price page changes one detail at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$984.55, S$284.27 more
  • 20% NCD: S$984.55, S$284.27 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$984.55, S$284.27 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$700.28, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$721.59, S$21.31 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$642.42, S$57.86 less

Here is what that shows:

  • NCD and younger drivers: three lines meet at one figure, 41% above the standard driver.
  • Older drivers: the driver aged 65 pays the same, though 12 insurers quote against 13.
  • Car age: the effect is small either way, with an 8-year-old car the cheaper of the two.

The lines are lowest prices only. Dearer plans can move by other amounts, and the insurer setting the lowest price can change from one line to the next.

Before you pick a plan

  • Workshop choice: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Plans allowing any workshop may cost a different amount.
  • Drivers on the policy: check who may drive and what each extra driver adds.
  • NCD protection: some plans sell it as an add-on. It is not in these prices.

Six similar cars

The price page compares these, for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The Megane SPRT Tourer, at S$700.28, is 3% below it. Three of the six cost less to insure, and the Kona costs only a little more. For other Renaults, see the Renault car insurance page.

What only you can price

  • Parking: season parking where you live, plus what you pay at work and on outings.
  • Fuel: how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: the gantries on your routes and when you pass them.
  • Servicing and repairs: the maker's schedule, tyres, brakes and a battery over time. Ask for the service record on a used car.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later, with the COE years left in mind.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
