Renault Captur costs in Singapore, from road tax to car insurance

The Renault Captur 1.3 in Singapore: road tax, the COE category rule and car insurance from 13 insurers for one standard driver, dated 20 October 2026.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Renault Captur sits right around the middle for insurance among the similar cars we compare it with. Its lowest premium is almost exactly their average. This page sets out that figure and the others we can show, from road tax to the COE, then lists the costs that depend on how you use the car.

Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium depends on your details.

The versions

The new-car list we read has no Captur on sale now, so there is no list price here. Our quote form carries two versions:

  • Captur 1.3: 1,332cc
  • Captur 1.5L DCI: 1,461cc

The insurance figures below are for the 1.3, the version most of our insurers quote. The 1.5L DCI has a different engine size, so its road tax and premiums will differ.

COE

For the Captur 1.3, with its 1,332cc engine, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
  • Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round

COE premiums reset at every bidding round. On a used Captur the COE is already paid, so the years left on it count towards its value. The COE page has the latest figures.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,332cc engine a road tax of S$585.72 a year, before any age surcharge. For the 1.5L DCI's figure, see the road tax page.

Cars more than 10 years old pay a surcharge on top:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Car insurance for the Captur

The Renault Captur price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Captur 1.3, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

The range

13 insurers price it online. The lowest premium is S$742.90 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,450.25, which is S$707.35 more, or 95% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

In other words, the dearest insurer asks close to double the lowest price for the same car and driver. Three insurers on our panel have no usable online price: two have none, and one lists the model only with another engine or fuel type.

Excess, and why it matters here

The two lowest premiums on this page come with very different excesses. One carries S$600, the other S$2,500. Most other plans carry S$600, and a few S$500 or S$800. One has none. The gap between the first two premiums is small, but the gap between their excesses is large. That is the kind of detail that decides which plan costs you less if you claim.

How the lowest price changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one detail changed:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,055.75, S$312.85 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,055.75, S$312.85 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,055.75, S$312.85 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$744.59, S$1.69 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less

No NCD, 20% NCD and the younger driver all meet at the same lowest price, 42% above the standard profile. A new Captur costs only S$1.69 more than a 3-year-old one at the lowest price. An 8-year-old one costs S$76.11 less. For the driver aged 65 and for the new car, 12 insurers quote against 13.

These lines show the lowest price only. Other plans may move by more or less.

What to check on a plan

  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. A plan with any-workshop repairs may cost a different amount.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive, and whether adding a young driver changes the price.
  • NCD protection: some plans offer it as an add-on. It is not in these prices.
  • Estimates: several prices on the page are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$753.91. The Captur, at S$742.90, is 1% below that. Two of the six, the Freed and the Sienta, cost less to insure. Other Renault models are on the Renault car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Fuel: depends on the version, your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule, and plan for tyres, brakes and a battery over time. On a used car, ask for the service record.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price you pay, the COE years left and what the car fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
