Only a handful of insurers price the Renault Grand Modus online, and that shapes what it costs to insure. The lowest premium sits above every similar car on its price page, and the NCD makes a very large difference. This page sets out those figures, the road tax and the COE.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your details.
The version we priced
There is no Grand Modus on the new-car list we read, so this page has no list price. Our quote form prices the Grand Modus 1.5 dCi, with a 1,461cc engine.
COE
For the Grand Modus 1.5 dCi, with a 1,461cc engine, the COE category depends on power:
- Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
- Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round
On a used Grand Modus, the COE is already paid. Check how many years are left, because that is part of what you are paying for. When it ends, the owner must renew it or take the car off the road. The COE page has the latest round.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,461cc engine a road tax of S$661.38 a year, before any age surcharge.
Once a car is more than 10 years old, a surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Check the registration date of any Grand Modus you look at. The road tax page has the formula for other engine sizes.
Car insurance
The Renault Grand Modus price page prices this profile:
- Car: Grand Modus 1.5 dCi, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons
Seven insurers quote
Only 7 insurers give an online price. Nine on our panel do not: eight have no online price for the model yet, and one does not list it. With so few online prices, you may want to ask other insurers for a quote directly.
A tight range
The lowest premium is S$1,038.09 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,215.42, which is S$177.33 more, or 17% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
That gap is narrow. But the starting point is high, so a narrow range does not mean a low price.
The excess
Every plan on this page carries S$600, except one at S$500. There is no zero-excess plan and nothing higher. That makes the premiums easy to compare like for like.
The NCD makes the biggest difference
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$2,029.37, S$991.28 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,624.49, S$586.40 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,701.58, S$663.49 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,134.42, S$96.33 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,069.32, S$31.23 more
- A car 8 years old: S$988.10, S$49.99 less
With no NCD, the lowest price goes up 95%, close to double. Even with 20% NCD, it is S$586.40 above the standard driver. A 27-year-old driver also pays far more. For this car, protecting a high NCD carries real weight.
An older driver pays more here, not the same, and one fewer insurer quotes. A new car costs a little more and an 8-year-old one a little less. For the new car too, 6 insurers give a price against 7.
These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.
What to check on a plan
- NCD protection: an add-on on some plans, not in these prices. Compare its cost with the figures above.
- Workshop: the prices assume an authorised workshop. A plan that allows any workshop may price differently.
- Named drivers: check who may drive and what a younger driver adds.
- Other insurers: if a missing insurer quotes you directly, compare that price with the ones here.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Grand Modus, at S$1,038.09, is 41% above it, and all six cost less to insure. Each of them is also quoted online by more insurers. Other Renaults are on the Renault car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
- Fuel: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
- Servicing and repairs: on a less common used car, ask for the service record and check that parts can be sourced.
- Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what the car fetches later.
