The Renault Kangoo name covers two quite different things in Singapore. The new-car list carries an electric commercial version, while our car insurance prices are for the Kangoo 1.6 on private use. This page keeps the two apart and sets out the figures for each where the facts give them.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote.
What the new-car list shows
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has one Kangoo, with a commercial body type, made in France:
- Kangoo E-Tech Electric 3-Seater 46 kWh: electric, 121bhp, listed at S$53,800
That price is as listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included as listed that day. This is not the version our insurance figures below are for. Our price page does not price the E-Tech Electric.
Versions on our quote form
Our quote form carries two Kangoo versions:
- Kangoo 1.6: 1,598cc
- Kangoo 1.6 16V Limited 4WD: 1,995cc
The insurance figures are for the 1.6, the version most of our insurers quote.
COE for the 1.6
The price page states the rule for the Kangoo 1.6, with a 1,598cc engine:
- Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
- Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round
COE premiums change every bidding round. On a used Kangoo 1.6, the years left on its COE are part of what you pay. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax for the 1.6
LTA's formula gives the 1,598cc engine a road tax of S$741.72 a year, before any age surcharge. The 4WD version's 1,995cc engine pays more; see the road tax page.
The age surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Insuring the Kangoo 1.6
The Renault Kangoo price page prices this profile:
- Car: Kangoo 1.6, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons
Few insurers quote
Only 7 insurers price it online. Nine on our panel do not: eight have no online price for the model yet, and one does not list it. With few online prices, you may want to ask others directly.
The lowest premium is S$642.42 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,171.61: S$529.19 more, or 82% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
The excess
The lowest premium carries a S$600 excess, and the second-lowest S$2,500. Most other plans carry S$600 or S$800, and one has none. Compare each premium with its excess.
Several prices on the page are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,096.62, S$454.20 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,081.98, S$439.56 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,096.62, S$454.20 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$18.27 more
- A car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less
The NCD is the big factor. Without it, the lowest price is 71% higher, and 20% NCD is not much better. The 27-year-old driver lands on the no-NCD figure. An older driver pays the same as the standard driver, and car age moves the lowest price only a little. For the driver aged 65 and the new car, 6 insurers quote.
These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.
Things to check
- Use of the car: these prices are for private use. If you plan to use the car for work, check what each insurer allows.
- Workshop: the prices assume an authorised workshop. Any-workshop plans may cost a different amount.
- Named drivers: check who may drive and what an extra driver costs.
- NCD protection: an add-on on some plans, not in these prices.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The Kangoo 1.6, at S$642.42, is 11% below it. Only the Sienta costs less to insure, and the Corolla Altis and Freed match it. The Renault car insurance page has other Renaults.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
- Fuel or charging: for the 1.6, your mileage and the pump price. For the electric version, where you charge and the rate you pay.
- ERP: depends on your routes and timing.
- Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. On a used car, ask for the service record.
- Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what you sell for.
