Renault Megane RS in Singapore, what it costs to own and insure

Renault Megane RS 1.8T TCe costs in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax and car insurance from 10 insurers, including a young driver's price.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Renault Megane RS costs more to insure than every similar car on its price page, and the gap grows sharply for a young driver. If you are pricing one up, the insurance section below matters most. This page also covers the Category B COE and the road tax, then the costs that depend on you.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium depends on your details.

The version we priced

The new-car list we read has no Megane RS on sale now, so there is no list price here. Our quote form prices the Megane RS 1.8T TCe, with a 1,798cc engine.

COE: Category B

With a 1,798cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Megane RS 1.8T TCe needs a Category B COE. It closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

On a used Megane RS the COE is already paid, and the years left shape what you pay. The COE page has the latest round.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,798cc engine a road tax of S$975.16 a year, before any age surcharge.

Once the car is more than 10 years old, a surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has the formula for other engine sizes.

Insurance for the Megane RS

The Renault Megane RS price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Megane RS 1.8T TCe, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

Ten insurers quote

10 insurers give an online price. Six on our panel have no online price for the model yet; the price page lists them.

The lowest premium is S$1,036.42 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,934.15: S$897.73 more, or 87% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The excess

The lowest premium carries a S$500 excess, and the next one up carries S$2,500. Most other plans carry S$600. Some carry S$750, a few S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one has none. Read the excess with the premium, because it is what you pay towards each claim.

The young-driver effect

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,928.53, S$892.11 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,618.99, S$582.57 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$2,195.91, S$1,159.49 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,202.03, S$165.61 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,032.82, S$3.60 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$1,010.95, S$25.47 less

On this car, the younger driver costs the most. A 27-year-old with three years' driving and 30% NCD pays a lowest price 112% above the standard driver, more than double. If a younger driver will be the main driver, price that profile before you commit.

Losing all your NCD nearly doubles the lowest price too. An older driver pays S$165.61 more. Car age barely matters: a new car costs S$3.60 less at the lowest price, though only 9 insurers quote it.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.

What to check on a plan

  • Main and named drivers: be exact about who will drive. A younger or less experienced driver changes the price a lot here.
  • NCD protection: some plans offer it as an add-on. It is not in these prices, and the no-NCD line shows what is at stake.
  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Any-workshop plans may price differently.
  • Other insurers: with six missing online, a direct quote may add to your choice.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$741.89. The Megane RS, at S$1,036.42, is 40% above it, and all six cost less to insure. Each of them is also quoted online by more insurers. Other Renaults are on the Renault car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule, and plan for tyres and brakes over time. On a used car, ask for the full service history.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what you sell for.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
