Renault Megane II SPRT SASE in Singapore, costs and insurance

Renault Megane II SPRT SASE 1.4 costs in Singapore: road tax, the COE rule and car insurance from 12 insurers for one stated driver, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Renault Megane II SPRT SASE is an older Megane, and in Singapore it will be a used car with some years already on its COE. This page sets out the costs we can put figures on: the COE rule, road tax and car insurance from 12 insurers. Then it covers the costs that depend on how you use the car.

The insurance figures were read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver. They are examples, not a quote.

Two versions on our form

The new-car list we read has no entry for it, so we show no list price. Our quote form carries two versions:

  • Megane II SPRT SASE 1.4: 1,390cc
  • Megane II SPRT SASE 1.5 dCi: 1,461cc

The insurance figures are for the 1.4, the version most of our insurers quote. The 1.5 dCi's larger engine pays a little more road tax.

The COE

For the 1.4, with its 1,390cc engine, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
  • Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round

For an older car, the key question is how many COE years are left. When the COE ends, the owner must renew it or take the car off the road. The COE page has the latest round.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,390cc engine a road tax of S$619.74 a year, before any age surcharge.

On an older car, the surcharge is likely to matter. It applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Check the registration date in the car's papers and find its band. The road tax page has the 1.5 dCi's figure.

Car insurance

The Renault Megane II SPRT SASE price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Megane II SPRT SASE 1.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

The profile uses a car 3 years old as a standard. For an older Megane II, the 8-year-old line below is the closer guide.

The prices

12 insurers give an online price. Four on our panel do not: three have no online price for the model yet, and one does not list it.

The lowest premium is S$660.69 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,210.35, which is S$549.66 more, or 83% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The excess

Excesses on this page stay at S$800 or below. Most plans carry S$600, some S$500 or S$800, and one has none. With no very high excesses, the premiums compare more directly than on some cars.

Several prices are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,068.61, S$407.92 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,068.61, S$407.92 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,068.61, S$407.92 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$660.69, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$666.79, S$6.10 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$604.07, S$56.62 less

No NCD, 20% NCD and the younger driver all reach the same lowest price, 62% above the standard driver. The older driver pays the same as the standard profile, with 11 insurers quoting. The 8-year-old car is S$56.62 cheaper at the lowest price.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.

Checks for an older car's cover

  • Will each insurer cover it: some stop pricing cars online past a certain age. Check this for your car's real age.
  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Any-workshop plans may price differently.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive and what each extra driver costs.
  • NCD protection: an add-on on some plans, not in these prices.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Megane II SPRT SASE, at S$660.69, is 10% below it. Three of the six cost less to insure: the Corolla Altis, the Freed and the Sienta. See the Renault car insurance page for other Renaults.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Fuel: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: on an older car, ask for the full service record and check how easily parts can be found.
  • Depreciation: weigh the price you pay against the COE years you will get.
