Renault Megane Hatch costs in Singapore, road tax and insurance

The Renault Megane Hatch 1.5 DCI in Singapore: road tax, the COE category rule and car insurance from 13 insurers for one driver, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

This page is for anyone pricing a used Renault Megane Hatch 1.5 DCI in Singapore, or renewing cover on one. It goes through the costs we can show: the COE rule, road tax and car insurance from 13 insurers. The spread between insurers is wide, so the insurance section is where most of the figures sit.

The prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium depends on your details.

The version on our form

There is no Megane Hatch on the new-car list we read, so there is no list price here. Our quote form prices the Megane Hatch 1.5 DCI, with a 1,461cc engine.

COE

For the Megane Hatch 1.5 DCI, with a 1,461cc engine, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
  • Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round

When you buy used, the COE is part of the car. The years left on it shape the price, so ask for the expiry date. The COE page shows the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,461cc engine a road tax of S$661.38 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has the formula for other engine sizes.

Insurance for the Megane Hatch

The Renault Megane Hatch price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Megane Hatch 1.5 DCI, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

A wide spread

13 insurers price it. Three on our panel do not: two have no online price for the model yet, and one does not list it.

The lowest premium is S$660.69 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,610.16: S$949.47 more, or 144% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs more than double the lowest premium. The same cover, on the same car, varies that much from one insurer to the next.

The excess

The two lowest premiums carry S$600 and S$2,500. Most plans carry S$600, others S$500 or S$800, and one has no excess. Put each premium next to its excess before you compare.

Several prices are marked as estimates. Confirm those on the insurer's own site.

What changes the lowest price

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,098.76, S$438.07 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,098.76, S$438.07 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,098.76, S$438.07 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$660.69, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$666.79, S$6.10 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$604.07, S$56.62 less

Three changes lead to the same figure, 66% above the standard driver: no NCD, 20% NCD and the younger driver. The driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard profile. Car age moves the lowest price only a little. For the driver aged 65 and the new car, 12 insurers quote.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.

Points to check

  • Workshop: the prices assume an authorised workshop. A plan that allows any workshop may cost a different amount.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive and what adding a younger driver costs.
  • NCD protection: some plans offer it as an add-on, not included in these prices.
  • Car age: if the car is older than the profile, check that each insurer still prices it online.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Megane Hatch, at S$660.69, is 10% below it. Three of the six, the Corolla Altis, Freed and Sienta, cost less to insure. Other Renaults, including other Meganes, are on the Renault car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Fuel: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. On a used car, ask for the service history and check that parts are easy to get.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what you sell for.
