The Renault Megane GT 1.6 sits just over a line that matters in Singapore. Its 1,618cc engine is above 1,600cc, so it needs a Category B COE. This page covers that, the road tax and the car insurance prices from 14 insurers, then the costs that depend on you.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price will depend on your details.
The version we priced
There is no Megane GT on the new-car list we read, so there is no list price here. Our quote form prices the Megane GT 1.6, with a 1,618cc engine.
COE: just over the line
With a 1,618cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Megane GT 1.6 needs a Category B COE. It closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
COE premiums move with each bidding round. On a used Megane GT, the COE is already paid, so check how long is left on it. When it ends, the owner renews it or takes the car off the road. The COE page has the latest figures.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,618cc engine a road tax of S$764.02 a year, before any age surcharge.
The age surcharge starts once a car is more than 10 years old:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page has the formula for other engine sizes.

The Renault Megane GT price page prices this profile:

The range of prices
14 insurers give an online price. Two on our panel have none for this model yet.
The lowest premium is S$700.28 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,642.15. That is S$941.87 more, or 134% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
The gap is wide enough that comparing several prices could save you a large sum each year.
The excess
Most plans carry a S$600 excess. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800. A few carry S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one has none. The third-lowest premium on the page carries S$2,500. Weigh each premium together with its excess.
Several prices are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,158.89, S$458.61 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,158.89, S$458.61 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,158.89, S$458.61 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$700.28, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$721.59, S$21.31 more
- A car 8 years old: S$642.42, S$57.86 less
Three changes reach the same lowest price: no NCD, 20% NCD and the 27-year-old driver. Each is 65% above the standard driver. The driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard profile. A new car costs S$21.31 more at the lowest price, and an 8-year-old one S$57.86 less. For the driver aged 65 and the new car, 13 insurers quote.
These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.
What to check on a plan
- Younger drivers: the young-driver line costs as much as having no NCD. If a younger family member will drive, price that before you buy.
- Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Any-workshop plans may differ.
- NCD protection: an add-on on some plans, not in these prices.
- Named drivers: check who may drive and what adding someone costs.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42

- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The Megane GT, at S$700.28, is 3% below it. Three of the six cost less to insure: the Corolla Altis, the Freed and the Sienta. The Kona is only a little dearer. Note that these rivals have engines of 1,600cc or less on the price page. Other Renaults are on the Renault car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
