Renault Megane costs in Singapore, from road tax to insurance

Renault Megane 1.2 TCe costs in Singapore: road tax, the COE category rule and car insurance from 14 insurers for one driver, dated 20 October 2026.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Renault Megane has been sold in Singapore in many forms, from a 1.2 to two-litre hatches and estates. Which one you have makes a real difference to the road tax. This page uses the version most insurers quote, the 1.2 TCe, and works through the COE rule, road tax and car insurance. It then lists the costs that depend on you.

Insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote.

Seven versions on our form

There is no Megane on the new-car list we read, so this page gives no list price. Our quote form lists seven versions:

  • Megane 1.2 TCe: 1,197cc
  • Megane 1.5 dCi: 1,461cc
  • Megane 1.5 Estate: 1,461cc
  • Megane 1.6 16v: 1,598cc
  • Megane 1.6 Estate: 1,598cc
  • Megane 2.0 Estate: 1,996cc
  • Megane 2.0 Hatch: 1,997cc

All the insurance prices below are for the 1.2 TCe. Check the engine size on any car you look at, because the road tax and the premiums follow it.

COE

For the Megane 1.2 TCe, with a 1,197cc engine, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
  • Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round

On a used Megane the COE is already paid. Ask how many years it has left, since that is a large part of what you pay for. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,197cc engine a road tax of S$506.54 a year, before any age surcharge. The larger versions pay more, and the two-litre ones a good deal more. Look them up on the road tax page.

Once a car is more than 10 years old, a surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Insurance for the Megane

The Renault Megane price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Megane 1.2 TCe, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

What insurers ask

14 insurers price it online. Two on our panel do not: one has no online price for the model yet, and one does not list it.

The lowest premium is S$660.69 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,450.25: S$789.56 more, or 120% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That means the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs more than double the lowest premium, for the same car and driver.

Look closely at the excess

The two lowest premiums are close together, but their excesses are S$600 and S$2,500. Most plans carry S$600. Others carry S$500 or S$800, a few S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one none. The excess is what you pay yourself on each claim, so it belongs in any comparison.

Some prices are marked as estimates. Confirm those on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.

How the lowest price moves

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,055.75, S$395.06 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,031.42, S$370.73 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,055.75, S$395.06 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$660.69, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$655.21, S$5.48 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$604.07, S$56.62 less

The NCD matters most. With none, the lowest price rises 60%, and 20% NCD is not far off. A 27-year-old driver pays the same as the no-NCD driver. An older driver pays the same as the standard profile.

Car age gives an odd result here. A new Megane is S$5.48 cheaper to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one, and an 8-year-old one cheaper still. That is because a different insurer sets the lowest price for the new car. For the new car and the driver aged 65, 13 insurers quote.

These lines show the lowest price only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.

What to check in a plan

  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. A plan with any-workshop repairs may cost a different amount.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive and what a younger driver adds.
  • NCD protection: an add-on on some plans, not in these prices.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$688.21. The Megane, at S$660.69, is 4% below it. Three of the six, the Jazz, the Qashqai and the C-HR, cost less to insure. Other Renaults are on the Renault car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Fuel: depends on the version, your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule, and plan for tyres, brakes and a battery. On a used car, ask for the service history.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what the car fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
