Renault Laguna III costs in Singapore, COE, road tax and insurance

Renault Laguna III 2.0T AT costs in Singapore: Category B COE, yearly road tax and car insurance from 11 insurers for one stated driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Renault Laguna III 2.0T AT is a used car in Singapore now, and its two-litre engine sets its fixed costs. It needs a Category B COE and pays road tax at the two-litre rate. This page lays out those figures and the car insurance prices from 11 insurers, then the costs that depend on you.

The insurance figures were read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver. They are examples, so treat them as a guide.

What we priced

The new-car list we read has no Laguna III on sale, so there is no list price. Our quote form prices one version, the Laguna III 2.0T AT, with a 1,998cc engine.

The COE category

With a 1,998cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Laguna III 2.0T AT needs a Category B COE. It closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

That figure applies to new registrations. On a used Laguna III, the COE is already paid, and what you are really buying is the years it has left. When it ends, the owner must renew it or take the car off the road. See the COE page for the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,998cc engine a road tax of S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge.

The age surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So on an older car, the yearly road tax climbs above the base figure. The road tax page has the formula for other engine sizes.

The insurance prices

The Renault Laguna III price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Laguna III 2.0T AT, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

Who quotes and at what price

11 insurers give an online price, while five on our panel have none for this model yet.

The lowest premium is S$959.78 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,410.27, which is S$450.49 more, or 47% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

A modest excess range

Every plan here carries an excess of S$800 or less. Most carry S$600. Some carry S$500, S$750 or S$800, and one has none. With no very high excesses, the premiums are easier to compare like for like. Still, check the figure on each plan.

Some prices are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.

What shifts the price

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,178.16, S$218.38 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,178.16, S$218.38 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,178.16, S$218.38 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,048.84, S$89.06 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$988.65, S$28.87 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$913.55, S$46.23 less

Losing all your NCD lifts the lowest price by 23%. Dropping to 20% NCD, or a 27-year-old driver, gives the same figure. The driver aged 65 pays S$89.06 more than the standard driver, with 10 insurers quoting. An 8-year-old car is S$46.23 cheaper to insure at the lowest price.

These lines show the lowest price only. Dearer plans may move by more or less, and the insurer behind the lowest price can change between lines.

Before you choose a plan

  • Car age: if the car is much older than the profile, check that each insurer still prices it online.
  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. A plan allowing any workshop may cost a different amount.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive, and what it costs to add someone.
  • NCD protection: some plans offer it as an add-on. It is not in these prices.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets out six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Laguna III, at S$959.78, is 11% above it. Four of the six cost less to insure; the Lexus NX and RX cost a little more. Other Renaults are on the Renault car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: ask for the service history on a used car, and check how easily parts can be found.
  • Depreciation: weigh the price you pay against the COE years left and what the car might fetch later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
