Renault Laguna in Singapore, what a 2.0 costs to own and insure

The Renault Laguna 2.0 16V in Singapore: Category B COE, yearly road tax and car insurance from 12 insurers for one standard driver, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

A Renault Laguna in Singapore today is an older, used car. Its two-litre engine puts it in Category B for the COE and sets a road tax well above a small car's. This page shows those figures, then what insurers ask, and closes with the costs that depend on you.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.

Two versions

There is no Laguna on the new-car list we read, so we give no list price. Our quote form has two versions:

  • Laguna 2.0 16V: 1,997cc
  • Laguna 2.0 Wagon: 1,998cc

The insurance figures are for the 2.0 16V, the version most of our insurers quote. The two engines are almost the same size, so their road tax is close. If you are looking at the Wagon, its premiums may still differ from the figures here.

COE

With a 1,997cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Laguna 2.0 16V needs a Category B COE: S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

A used Laguna carries its COE, and the years left on it shape the price. When it runs out, the owner renews it or takes the car off the road. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,997cc engine a road tax of S$1,208.58 a year, before any age surcharge. That is more than the lowest insurance premium for this car.

An older car also pays a surcharge:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Check the registration date of any Laguna you look at, because the surcharge may well apply. The road tax page has other engine sizes.

Insuring the Laguna

The Renault Laguna price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Laguna 2.0 16V, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

The profile assumes a car 3 years old. For an older Laguna, the 8-year-old line below is the closer guide.

Prices from 12 insurers

12 insurers give an online price. Four on our panel have none for this model yet.

The lowest premium is S$959.78 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,417.70: S$457.92 more, or 48% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The excess

Most plans carry S$600. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800, a few S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one has none. Look at the excess beside each premium.

Several prices are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.

How the lowest price changes

With one detail changed, the price page shows:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,178.16, S$218.38 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,178.16, S$218.38 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,178.16, S$218.38 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,048.84, S$89.06 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$988.65, S$28.87 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$913.55, S$46.23 less

Losing your NCD raises the lowest price by 23%. The 20% NCD and younger-driver lines land on the same figure. The older driver pays S$89.06 more, and one fewer insurer quotes. An 8-year-old car is cheaper to insure at the lowest price.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts. The insurer behind the lowest price can also change from one line to the next, so the plan you would pick may change too.

What to check on a plan

  • Car age: if your Laguna is older than the profile, check that each insurer still prices it online.
  • Workshop: these prices are for an authorised workshop. Any-workshop plans may differ.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive and what each extra driver costs.
  • NCD protection: an add-on on some plans, not in these prices.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Laguna, at S$959.78, is 11% above it. Four of the six cost less to insure; only the two Lexus models cost more. The Renault car insurance page has other Renaults.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: on an older car, ask for the full service record and check how easily parts can be sourced.
  • Depreciation: weigh the price you pay against the COE years left.
