Renault Koleos 2.5 in Singapore, the costs of owning and insuring one

Renault Koleos 2.5 costs in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax on a 2,488cc engine and car insurance from 13 insurers for one driver, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

With a 2.5-litre engine, the Renault Koleos carries two costs that smaller cars avoid: a Category B COE and a much higher road tax. Its insurance, on the other hand, is close to the middle of the similar cars on its price page. This page goes through each cost in turn.

Insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your details.

The version on our form

The new-car list we read has no Koleos on sale now, so there is no list price here. Our quote form prices the Koleos 2.5, with a 2,488cc engine.

COE: Category B

With a 2,488cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Koleos 2.5 needs a Category B COE. That closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

On a used Koleos the COE is already paid, so the years it has left matter when you agree a price. When the COE ends, the owner must renew it or take the car off the road. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax on a 2.5

LTA's formula gives the 2,488cc engine a road tax of S$1,784.52 a year, before any age surcharge. For this car, road tax is a bigger yearly bill than the lowest insurance premium.

The surcharge adds to it once the car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

On an older Koleos, budget for the surcharge on top of a high base. The road tax page has the formula for other engine sizes.

Insurance for the Koleos

The Renault Koleos price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Koleos 2.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

The spread

13 insurers price it, and three on our panel have no online price for it yet.

The lowest premium is S$836.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,571.91, which is S$735.84 more, or 88% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The excess

The lowest premium carries a S$600 excess, the second-lowest S$2,500. Most other plans carry S$600; some carry S$500, S$750 or S$800, and one has none. A low premium with a high excess can cost more on a claim.

Some prices on the page are marked as estimates. Confirm those on the insurer's own site.

How the price moves

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,098.76, S$262.69 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,098.76, S$262.69 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,098.76, S$262.69 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$836.07, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$861.03, S$24.96 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$764.82, S$71.25 less

Three changes reach the same lowest price, 31% above the standard driver: no NCD, 20% NCD and the younger driver. The older driver pays the same as the standard profile. An 8-year-old Koleos is S$71.25 cheaper to insure at the lowest price. For the driver aged 65 and the new car, 12 insurers quote.

These lines show lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by more or less.

Points to check on a plan

  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. A plan with any-workshop repairs may cost a different amount.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive and what a younger driver adds.
  • NCD protection: some plans offer it as an add-on, not included here.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets six similar cars beside the Koleos:

Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The Koleos, at S$836.07, is 6% below it. Three of the six cost less to insure: the Odyssey, Alphard and Vellfire. The Camry is only a little dearer. Note that the RS 3 Sedan is quoted by just 3 insurers, which lifts the average. Other Renaults are on the Renault car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule, and plan for tyres, brakes and a battery over time. On a used car, ask for the service history.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what you sell for.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
