A Land Rover Freelander in Singapore is now a used-market buy, with a long list of engine sizes to choose from. Which one you buy shapes the road tax and, to a degree, the insurance. This page sets out what we can show for the version most insurers quote.
The Freelander has no entry on the new-car list. Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how the costs stack up; they are not a quote.
Versions on our form
Our quote form lists eight Freelanders:
- Freelander 1.8: 1,796cc
- Freelander 2 2.0 Si4 HSE (A): 1,999cc
- Freelander 2 2.2 SE TD4 DIESEL (A): 2,179cc
- Freelander 2 3.2: 3,192cc
- Freelander 2 TD4: 2,179cc
- Freelander 2.2: 2,179cc
- Freelander 2.5 V6: 2,497cc
- Freelander 3.2 i6: 3,191cc
The figures below are for the Freelander 2 2.0 Si4 HSE (A). There is no list price, as the model is not on the new-car list.
COE
The price page's COE section says the Freelander 2 2.0 Si4 HSE (A), at 1,999cc, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.
Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has the latest. On any used Freelander, check when the COE expires.
Road tax
For a 1,999cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,210.92 a year, before any age surcharge. The 2.2, 2.5 and 3.2 versions pay more; the 1.8 pays less. Look them up on the road tax page.
Older cars pay a surcharge:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Check the registration date on the car's papers to see which step applies, if any.
Insurance for the example driver
The Land Rover Freelander price page prices this case:
- Car: Freelander 2 2.0 Si4 HSE (A), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
12 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$985.91. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$2,029.31, which is S$1,043.40 more, or 106% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So the dearest is more than double the lowest. Four insurers that price cars online have no online price for the Freelander. For one, the model is not on its online quote.
The page prices a car registered 3 years ago. A Freelander you buy now may be older, so the 8-year-old row below is also worth reading.
Excess
The excess is what you pay yourself on each claim. Nine of the 19 plans carry S$600. Two ask S$500 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess. Check that column carefully before you choose a plan, as it varies a lot.
What changes the premium
The price page shows the lowest premium after one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,256.99, S$271.08 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,256.99, S$271.08 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,256.99, S$271.08 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,152.87, S$166.96 more
- New car, registered this year: S$962.54, S$23.37 less
- Car 8 years old: S$927.30, S$58.61 less
Having no NCD costs the most, with the lowest price 27% higher. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The 65-year-old pays S$166.96 more than the base driver.
On car age, both a new car and an 8-year-old car come in below the 3-year-old car. These are lowest prices; dearer plans may react differently.
So the older driver and the no-NCD driver are the cases to watch here. If either applies to you, get quotes with your real details.

Costs set by you
These depend on the owner, so we give no figures:
- Parking: season parking at home and work, plus parking for errands.
- Fuel: depends on distance and pump prices. Several versions on the form are diesels.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and repairs: an older car may need more parts over time. Ask what has been replaced and what is due.
