Land Rover Discovery Sport 2.0 costs in Singapore and insurance spread

Discovery Sport 2.0 costs in Singapore: road tax for a 1,999cc engine, Category B COE and an insurance spread of 147% between insurers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Land Rover Discovery Sport shows one of the widest gaps between insurers on our price pages. For the same driver and car, the dearest insurer's lowest plan is well over twice the lowest premium. This page sets out that spread and the other costs we can show: road tax and the COE category.

There is no Discovery Sport on the new-car list now, so a buyer today is shopping used. All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.

The version on our form

Our quote form lists one version:

  • Discovery Sport 2.0: 1,999cc

There is no list price, since the new-car list has no Discovery Sport. Every figure below is for the 2.0. Since the form carries only this one engine size, the road tax and COE notes should fit most Discovery Sports you are offered. Check the papers all the same, as the figures depend on the engine.

COE

The price page's COE section says the Discovery Sport 2.0, at 1,999cc, is above 1,600cc and needs a Category B COE.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100. The COE page shows later rounds. On a used car, check the COE expiry date before you agree a price.

Road tax

For a 1,999cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,210.92 a year, before any age surcharge.

Cars more than 10 years old pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page explains how the base figure is set.

Insurance and the size of the gap

The Land Rover Discovery Sport price page prices this case:

  • Car: Discovery Sport 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$985.91. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$2,432.99. That is S$1,447.08 more, or 147% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That gap is the clearest reason to compare on this car. Only two insurers that price cars online have no online price for it yet, so you can see most of the market at once. Look past the top of the list too: plans in the middle may come with a lower excess or cover you value more, for not much more money.

The excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. There are 22 plans on this page. Ten carry S$600. Two ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has none. A low premium paired with a S$2,500 excess may cost you more in a year when you claim.

How the price changes

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,683.44, S$697.53 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,491.67, S$505.76 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,646.51, S$660.60 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,152.87, S$166.96 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$962.54, S$23.37 less
  • Car 8 years old: S$927.30, S$58.61 less

No NCD costs the most, with the lowest price 71% higher. A 20% NCD still leaves it S$505.76 above the base case. The younger driver pays almost as much as the no-NCD case, and the 65-year-old pays more too.

The car's age moves the price only a little. Both a new car and an 8-year-old car cost less to insure than the 3-year-old one. These are lowest prices only, and the plans behind them differ from row to row.

The lesson for a buyer is plain. Your own NCD and age decide much of this premium. If either differs from the example, expect a different price and perhaps a different lowest insurer.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars at the same driver and car age:

They average S$867.25. The Discovery Sport costs 14% more, and all six are cheaper to insure. The two Lexus models are closest, at S$972.39 each. Other Land Rovers are on the Land Rover car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

These vary between owners, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service history and what is due.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price paid and the COE years left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
