Land Rover Defender costs in Singapore, from list price to cover

Land Rover Defender costs in Singapore: list prices as listed on 2026-10-10, road tax and COE for the 2.0, and insurance by driver and car age.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Land Rover Defender sits at the top end of what Singapore buyers pay for an SUV. That makes it worth knowing each cost before you sign. This page covers the list price, the COE, road tax and car insurance, using only dated figures.

The new-car list shows several Defender versions, while our insurance, road tax and COE figures are for the 2.0 on our quote form. Each section says which it covers. Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026.

The versions on sale and on our form

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has six Defender versions on sale, all SUVs made in Slovakia:

  • 110 Mild Hybrid 4.4 OCTA: petrol-electric, 4,395cc, 626bhp
  • 110 Mild Hybrid 4.4 OCTA Black: petrol-electric, 4,395cc, 626bhp
  • 110 Plug-in Hybrid 2.0 Trophy Edition 1 5-Seater: petrol-electric, 1,997cc, 296bhp
  • 110 Plug-in Hybrid 2.0 X-Dynamic HSE 5-Seater: petrol-electric, 1,997cc, 296bhp
  • 130 5.0 LWB X-Dynamic HSE 7-seater: petrol, 5,000cc, 420bhp
  • 130 5.0 LWB X-Dynamic HSE 8-seater: petrol, 5,000cc, 420bhp

Our quote form lists five versions: the 2.0 (1,999cc), 2.2 (2,198cc), 2.5 (2,401cc), 90 Hardtop Diesel (2,401cc) and 110 3.0 (2,996cc). The insurance figures are for the 2.0, the version most insurers quote.

List prices

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:

  • 110 Plug-in Hybrid 2.0 X-Dynamic HSE 5-Seater: S$500,888
  • 110 Plug-in Hybrid 2.0 Trophy Edition 1 5-Seater: S$504,888
  • 130 5.0 LWB X-Dynamic HSE 8-seater: S$541,888
  • 130 5.0 LWB X-Dynamic HSE 7-seater: S$570,888

The list gives no price for the two OCTA versions. List prices move with every COE round. When you compare offers, check what each one includes.

COE

The price page's COE section covers the Defender 2.0. With a 1,999cc engine, above 1,600cc, it needs a Category B COE. That category closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

The page states no category for the other versions, so we give none. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

For the 2.0's 1,999cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,210.92 a year, before any age surcharge. The new-car list's versions have different engines, and the 4.4 and 5.0 are far larger. Check those on the road tax page.

The age surcharge:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Insurance for the example driver

The Land Rover Defender price page prices this case:

  • Car: Defender 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

11 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$1,031.27. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$2,302.54. That is S$1,271.27 more, or 123% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Five insurers that price cars online have no online price for the Defender yet.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Of the 19 plans here, eight carry S$600. One asks S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess. Weigh both figures, as a high excess shifts more of a claim to you.

How the price changes

The price page reprices the car with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,659.11, S$627.84 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,560.99, S$529.72 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,646.51, S$615.24 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,176.08, S$144.81 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$1,012.68, S$18.59 less
  • Car 8 years old: S$957.38, S$73.89 less

No NCD costs the most, adding 61% to the lowest price. A 20% NCD helps only a little. The younger driver pays nearly as much as one with no NCD, and the 65-year-old also pays more.

Car age works the other way. A new Defender and an 8-year-old one each cost less to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page. These are lowest prices only.

On this car, the driver shapes the premium far more than the car's age does. If more than one person will drive it, ask for quotes with each named.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:

They average S$867.25. The Defender costs 19% more, and all six are cheaper to insure. More Land Rovers are on the Land Rover car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at home and work. Check that your car park's lots and height limits suit the car.
  • Fuel or charging: depends on distance and prices. The plug-in hybrids can also run on charged power.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and repairs: ask what the warranty and any service package cover.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay and what it fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
