The Land Rover Discovery came with many engines over the years, and that makes its running costs in Singapore depend on which one you buy. This page sets out what we can show for the 2.5, the version most insurers quote. It also points out where other versions differ.
There is no Discovery on the new-car list now, so you would be buying used. All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide, not a quote.
The versions on our quote form
Our quote form lists eight:
- Discovery 2.5: 2,495cc
- Discovery 2.0 SE 7-Seater: 1,997cc
- Discovery 2.0 Si4 HSE 7-Seater: 1,997cc
- Discovery 2.0 Si4 SE 7-Seater: 1,997cc
- Discovery 3.0: 2,995cc
- Discovery 4 2.7 TDV6 HSE DIESEL (A): 2,720cc
- Discovery 4 3.0 Diesel TDV6 HSE: 2,993cc
- Discovery 4.0: 3,946cc
The figures below are for the 2.5. There is no list price, as the new-car list has no Discovery. Engines range from 1,997cc to 3,946cc, so road tax varies a lot. Check the engine size on the car's papers before you budget.
COE
The price page's COE section says the Discovery 2.5, at 2,495cc, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.
Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. COE results change every round; the COE page has the latest. On a used car, look at how long the COE has left. That has a large effect on value.
Road tax
For the 2.5's 2,495cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,792.74 a year, before any age surcharge. Larger engines on the form pay more; the 2.0 versions pay less. The road tax page works out each one.
The age surcharge:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Insurance for the base case
The Land Rover Discovery price page prices one driver and car:
- Car: Discovery 2.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
11 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$1,275.73. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$2,154.59, which is S$878.86 more, or 69% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Five insurers that price cars online have no online price for the Discovery. For one, the model is not on its online quote; the other four have no online price for it yet.
Excess
The excess is your share of any claim. Ten of the 18 plans on this page carry S$600. Three ask S$800 and one S$500. Two ask S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess. Note both figures for each plan you shortlist.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest premium after one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,683.44, S$407.71 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,683.44, S$407.71 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,683.44, S$407.71 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,275.73, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$1,314.08, S$38.35 more
- Car 8 years old: S$1,167.34, S$108.39 less
No NCD is the costliest change, adding 32% to the lowest price. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The older driver pays the same as the base case.
An 8-year-old Discovery is S$108.39 cheaper to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page. A used Discovery today may well be older than 3 years, so that row may be the closer guide. These are lowest prices; dearer plans may move by other amounts.
The insurer that is lowest changes once the NCD drops. If your discount is below 50%, compare again with your own figure rather than relying on the base case.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
- Mitsubishi Outlander: S$861.03
- Toyota Camry: S$841.31
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Toyota Alphard: S$764.82
- Toyota Vellfire: S$764.82
Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The Discovery costs 43% more. Five of the six are cheaper to insure; only the Audi RS 3 Sedan costs more, and just 3 insurers price that car. Other Land Rovers are on the Land Rover car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
These vary by owner, so we give no figures:
- Parking: season parking at home and work, plus parking for trips out. Check your car park's lot sizes.
- Fuel: depends on distance and pump prices. Some versions on the form are diesels.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what is due next.
- Depreciation: depends on what you pay and the COE years remaining.
