The Chevrolet Epica is a 2-litre car that has long left the new-car list. Any Epica on sale now is a used car, likely with its COE well run down. Before buying, it helps to know the yearly bills. This page goes through them.
Insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to how prices compare, not a quote for you.
Versions on our form
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. So this page gives no list price, power or body type.
Our quote form lists two versions:
- Epica 2.0: 1,992cc
- Epica 2.5: 2,490cc
The figures here are for the Epica 2.0, the version most of our insurers quote. The 2.5 has a larger engine, so its road tax is higher.
The COE
With a 1,992cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Epica 2.0 needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.
That price changes every bidding round; see the COE page. For a used Epica, the more useful number is the years left on its current COE. When they run out, you renew the COE or deregister the car.
Road tax
For the 1,992cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,202.72 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.
Because most Epicas are older cars, the surcharge may already apply:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Check the registration date. The road tax page has the sum for the 2.5.
Car insurance
The standard profile
The Chevrolet Epica price page prices:
- Car: Epica 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
The spread
14 insurers price the Epica for that driver. The lowest premium is S$742.90 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,549.94. That is S$807.04 more, or 109% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Two insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.
At the lowest price, insurance costs less than the road tax each year. At the dearest, it costs more. Where you buy the policy decides which.
The excess
Most plans set a S$600 excess. Three set S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.
The excess is your share of each claim. Read it next to the premium.
How the premium moves
Here is the lowest price with one detail changed:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,086.16, S$343.26 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,086.16, S$343.26 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,086.16, S$343.26 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
- A car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less
No NCD lifts the lowest price by 46%. A 20% NCD and a younger driver land on the same figure.
The older driver pays the same. An 8-year-old car costs less to insure than a 3-year-old one, and an Epica on sale today is likely to be older still.
These are lowest prices. Other plans may change by different amounts.
Points to check in a quote
Price aside, a few terms matter:
- Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Some plans allow any workshop, at a different price.
- Who else drives: a younger named driver may raise the price.
- NCD protection: an optional extra on some plans.
- Excess: what you pay on each claim.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
Their average is S$867.25. The Epica is 14% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Toyota Harrier matches it.
Other Chevrolets are on the Chevrolet car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.
Checks before you buy a used Epica
A few things are worth confirming before you agree a price:
- COE expiry: the date sets how many years of use you are paying for.
- Road tax: when the next payment falls due, and whether the age surcharge applies.
- Insurance: get a quote for this exact car and your own details before you commit, since your price may differ from the examples here.
Costs that depend on you
These have no single figure:
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
- Petrol: a 2-litre engine, your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and hours.
- Parts and servicing: for an older car, ask how easy parts are to find and how long they take. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
- Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.
