Chevrolet Aveo costs in Singapore, from road tax to insurance

A used Chevrolet Aveo in Singapore: road tax for the 1.2, the COE rule and dated car insurance prices for one stated driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Chevrolet Aveo is no longer on the new-car list, but it is still seen on Singapore roads. If you are looking at a used one, its small engine keeps the fixed costs down. This page sets out those costs, then looks at car insurance.

The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to how prices compare, not a quote.

The Aveo versions

The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now, so there is no list price, power or body type to give.

Our quote form lists five Aveo versions:

  • Aveo 1.2: 1,206cc
  • Aveo 1.4: 1,398cc
  • Aveo 1.5: 1,498cc
  • Aveo 1.6 Hatch: 1,597cc
  • Aveo 5 HB MT: 1,399cc

The figures here are for the Aveo 1.2, the version most of our insurers quote. The larger engines pay more road tax, and their premiums may differ.

Road tax for the 1.2

For the 1,206cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$511.82 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.

Many Aveos on the road are older cars, so the surcharge may apply:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Check the registration date. For the other engine sizes, see the road tax page.

The COE

With a 1,206cc engine, the Aveo 1.2 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Both change at every bidding round. The COE page has the latest.

On a used Aveo, the years left on the COE are what matter. They decide how long you can keep the car and much of what it is worth.

Insurance for one driver

The profile

The Chevrolet Aveo price page prices:

  • Car: Aveo 1.2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

The spread

12 insurers price the Aveo for that driver. The lowest premium is S$586.41 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,280.39. That is S$693.98 more, or 118% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The dearest is more than twice the lowest. Four insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.

The excess

Most plans here set a S$600 excess. Two set S$500 and three S$800. Two set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.

For an older car, a high excess can swallow most of a repair bill. Check it when you compare.

When one thing changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$926.54, S$340.13 more
  • 20% NCD: S$926.54, S$340.13 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$926.54, S$340.13 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

Without NCD, the lowest price rises 58%. The younger driver and 20% NCD cases end at the same figure.

An older driver pays the same as the 40-year-old. An 8-year-old Aveo costs a little less to insure. Since most Aveos on sale are older than the car on the page, that line is the more useful guide.

These are lowest prices. Dearer plans may move differently.

Other terms in a quote

Price is not the only thing that differs between plans. Worth a look:

  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. A plan allowing any workshop may cost more or less.
  • Named drivers: a younger driver added to the policy can lift the price.
  • NCD protection: an optional extra on some plans.
  • Excess: what you pay on each claim.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

They average S$688.21. The Aveo is 15% below that. Only one of them, the Toyota C-HR, is cheaper to insure.

Other Chevrolets are on the Chevrolet car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

Costs we cannot put a figure on

Some costs depend on your use:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus parking elsewhere.
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and hours.
  • Parts and servicing: for an older car, ask how easy parts are to find and who services the car. Tyres, brakes and a battery still come due.
  • Depreciation: mostly the COE years left.

Summary

For the Chevrolet Aveo 1.2 (1,206cc), dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$511.82 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$586.41 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$926.54
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$545.00

A fresh COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B).
