Chevrolet Captiva 2.4 in Singapore, the yearly cost of keeping one

The Chevrolet Captiva 2.4 in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax for 2,384cc and dated car insurance prices for one stated driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Chevrolet Captiva is a car with a 2.4-litre engine, and it is no longer on the new-car list. If you are weighing up a used one, the bigger engine shapes its yearly costs. Road tax in particular is a good deal higher than for a small car.

The insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show the pattern of prices, not a quote for you.

The car priced

The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. There is no list price, power or body type on this page.

Our quote form prices the Chevrolet Captiva 2.4, with a 2,384cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote.

Road tax: the largest fixed cost

For the 2,384cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,662.54 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.

It is due every year whatever your mileage. Older cars pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

A Captiva past its tenth year will pay one of these on top. The road tax page has sums for other engines.

A Category B COE

With a 2,384cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Captiva 2.4 needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.

That price moves every round, and the COE page has the latest. On a used Captiva, the years left on the COE matter more than the original price.

Car insurance for the standard driver

The profile priced

The Chevrolet Captiva price page prices:

  • Car: Captiva 2.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

What insurers ask

15 insurers price the Captiva for that driver. The lowest premium is S$764.82 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,652.16. That is S$887.34 more, or 116% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Only one insurer on our panel has no online price for this model. So you have a wide field to compare.

Insurance is not the Captiva's dearest yearly cost. At the lowest price, it comes to well under the road tax.

The excess

Most plans set a S$600 excess. Three set S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.

Look at the excess with each premium. The lowest premium is not always paired with the lowest excess.

How one change shifts the price

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail differs:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,095.35, S$330.53 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,095.35, S$330.53 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,095.35, S$330.53 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$764.82, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$787.96, S$23.14 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$700.28, S$64.54 less

Losing the NCD adds 43% at the lowest price. The younger driver and 20% NCD cases reach the same figure.

The 65-year-old driver pays the same as the 40-year-old. An 8-year-old Captiva costs less to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page.

These are lowest prices. Other plans may move by different amounts.

For most buyers of a used Captiva, the 8-year-old line is the closer guide. Cars on sale today are likely to be well past 3 years old.

Things to weigh in a quote

A few terms are worth checking alongside the price:

  • Workshop: the prices assume an authorised workshop. Plans that allow any workshop may cost more or less.
  • Named drivers: in a family car, more than one person may drive. See how each plan prices extra drivers.
  • NCD protection: an optional extra some plans offer.
  • Excess: what you pay on each claim.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average is S$892.30. The Captiva is 14% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Toyota Alphard and Vellfire match it.

Other Chevrolets are on the Chevrolet car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

Costs that depend on you

Some costs have no single figure:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
  • Petrol: a 2.4-litre engine, your distance and the pump price all count.
  • ERP: your routes and hours.
  • Parts and repairs: ask how easy parts are to find for an older car, and who services it. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
  • Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.

Yearly costs we can show

For the Chevrolet Captiva 2.4 (2,384cc), dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$1,662.54 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$764.82 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,095.35
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$700.28

A fresh Category B COE closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
