The Chevrolet Cruze came in many versions over the years, and plenty are still on Singapore roads. It is no longer on the new-car list, so buying one means buying used. This page shows the yearly costs that can be counted, and what changes them.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. They are not a quote for you.
Six versions on the form
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. There is no list price, power or body type on this page.
Our quote form lists six Cruze versions:
- Cruze 1.4: 1,362cc
- Cruze 1LT: 1,400cc
- Cruze 1.6 BASE: 1,582cc
- Cruze 1.6 HTBK: 1,598cc
- Cruze 1.6 SASE: 1,599cc
- Cruze 1.8 HTBK: 1,800cc
The figures below are for the Cruze 1.4, the version most of our insurers quote. The larger engines pay more road tax, and their premiums may differ. So check which version you are looking at before you budget.
Insurance for one standard driver
The details
The Chevrolet Cruze price page prices:
- Car: Cruze 1.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
The prices
15 insurers price the Cruze for that driver. The lowest premium is S$586.41 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,280.38. That is S$693.97 more, or 118% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Only one insurer on our panel has no online price for this model. That gives you a broad set of prices to compare.
Excess
Most plans set a S$600 excess. Three set S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.
Check the excess on every plan you shortlist. The highest figures here are several times the most common one.
How the price changes
The price page lists the lowest price with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,012.90, S$426.49 more
- 20% NCD: S$987.63, S$401.22 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,012.90, S$426.49 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
- A car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less
Losing the NCD adds 73% at the lowest price, the biggest change here. A 20% NCD is only a little lower than none. A younger driver pays the same as a driver with no NCD.
Age of driver does not move the lowest price, and the car's age moves it only a little. An 8-year-old Cruze is a bit cheaper to insure.
These are lowest prices. Other plans may react differently.
The COE
With a 1,362cc engine, the Cruze 1.4 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.
On a used Cruze, check the COE expiry date. The years left set how long you can keep the car and much of its value.
Road tax
For the 1,362cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$603.32 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.
From the tenth year, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
For the 1.6 and 1.8 versions, use the road tax page.
More to compare than the premium
Plans differ in more than price. A few points to check:
- Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Some plans allow any workshop.
- Named drivers: adding a younger driver tends to raise the price.
- NCD protection: an optional extra on some plans.
- Excess: the sum you pay on each claim.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class: S$749.93
Their average is S$753.91. The Cruze is 22% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Toyota Sienta comes closest.
Other Chevrolets are on the Chevrolet car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.
Costs that depend on you
These have no single figure:
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
- Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and hours.
- Parts and servicing: ask how easy parts are to find and who services the car. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
- Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.
