The X4 xDrive20i is the 2-litre end of BMW's X4 range. If you are pricing up a used one, this page lists the yearly costs that can be shown with figures. It looks at insurance first, then road tax and the COE.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how prices compare across insurers and situations. They are not a quote for you.
Version and engine
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. So this page gives no list price, power or body type.
Our quote form prices the BMW X4 xDrive20i with a 1,997cc engine, the version most of our insurers quote. All the figures below use it.
Car insurance prices
The driver behind the numbers
The BMW X4 xDrive20i price page prices:
- The car: registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- The driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- The record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
What 14 insurers ask
For that driver, 14 insurers price the car. The lowest premium is S$840.90 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$3,266.15. The difference is S$2,425.25, which is 288% on top of the lowest. All prices include 9% GST.
Two insurers on our panel have no online price for this model yet.
The spread is wide because insurers weigh the same details differently. One may price a 2-litre BMW close to a family car, while another treats it as a higher risk. You cannot tell which way an insurer leans until you see its price. That is why a single quote tells you little on its own.
Excess
The excess is the amount you pay on each claim before cover takes over. S$600 is the usual figure on this page. Some plans set S$500 or S$800. A few set S$2,500, one sets S$3,000, and one has no excess.
A plan with a high excess can look cheaper than it is. Read it next to the premium.
What happens when one thing changes
The page also lists the lowest price after a single change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,406.18, up S$565.28
- 20% NCD: S$1,406.18, up S$565.28
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,406.18, up S$565.28
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$997.03, up S$156.13
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,068.68, up S$227.78
- A car 8 years old: S$786.13, down S$54.77
The NCD is the largest factor. Without it, the lowest price is 67% higher. The younger driver and the 20% NCD case share that same figure.
A brand-new X4 xDrive20i costs noticeably more to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page. The 65-year-old driver pays a bit more too. An 8-year-old car costs a little less.
Each of these is the lowest price only. Dearer plans may shift by other amounts.
COE
With a 1,997cc engine, above 1,600cc, the X4 xDrive20i needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
That price moves with each round of bidding. The COE page shows the most recent result.
For a used car, the COE has been paid already. Ask how many years remain, since it caps how long you can keep the car without renewing.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives S$1,208.58 a year for a 1,997cc engine. That figure was checked on 2026-10-19 and does not include any age surcharge.
The surcharge rises in steps after the tenth year:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Other engine sizes are on the road tax page.

The price page puts six similar cars next to the X4 xDrive20i:
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
- Mercedes-Benz GLC: S$925.60
Together they average S$878.01. The X4 xDrive20i is 4% under that. Only 2 of the six are cheaper to insure. Both are Toyotas, the Harrier and the Voxy.
The BMW car insurance page lists more BMW models. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.
Owner-dependent costs
These costs vary too much between owners for one figure:
- Parking: your season parking at home, and what you pay elsewhere.
- Petrol: depends on how much you drive and the price at the pump.
- ERP: depends on where and when you drive.
- Upkeep: servicing on the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and batteries over the years.
- Depreciation: the difference between what you pay and what you later get back, linked to COE years left.
When you look at a used X4, ask for its service history. It tells you what has been replaced and what may be due.
