How much a BMW X3 costs to run and insure in Singapore

The BMW X3's Singapore costs set out in order: list prices, its Category B COE, road tax and dated car insurance prices for different drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Thinking about a BMW X3? The bill splits into a few big one-off sums and a set of yearly ones. This guide goes through each in turn, so you can see where the money goes before you visit a showroom or bid for a used car.

The insurance figures are examples for one driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your quote will differ with your age, experience and record. Read them as a sense of scale, not as the price you will pay.

The X3 range today

On the new-car list read on 2026-10-10, the X3 is an SUV made in the USA. Three versions are listed, all petrol-electric mild hybrids:

  • X3 xDrive 20: 1,998cc, 188bhp
  • X3 xDrive 20 M Sport: 1,998cc, 188bhp
  • X3 M50 3.0 xDrive: 2,998cc, 393bhp

Our quote form also holds older X3 versions, with engines from 1,995cc to 2,998cc. The insurance figures below are for the X3 xDrive20i with a 1,998cc engine. That is the version most insurers on our panel quote.

The price on the list

These figures include COE, as listed on 2026-10-10:

  • xDrive 20: S$374,888
  • xDrive 20 M Sport: S$389,888
  • M50 3.0 xDrive: S$486,888

List prices follow the COE rounds and change often. When you compare offers, check what each includes, so you compare like with like.

COE

For the xDrive20i, the price page is direct. With a 1,998cc engine, above 1,600cc, it needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100. Each round sets a new figure, and the COE page has the newest one.

Road tax, year by year

For a petrol engine, road tax depends on its size. The 1,998cc engine comes to S$1,209.76 a year under LTA's formula. That is before any surcharge for age.

Past 10 years, the surcharge climbs:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The M50, with its larger engine, pays more in road tax. Look up other engine sizes on the road tax page.

What insurance costs for a typical driver

The BMW X3 price page prices this case:

  • Car: X3 xDrive20i, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no extras

15 insurers price this case. The lowest premium is S$856.04 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$3,266.15. That is S$2,410.11 more, or 282% on top. Every price includes 9% GST. One insurer on our panel has no online price for the X3 yet.

That is one of the widest spreads you will see for a single driver. The quote you happen to get first could be far from the lowest.

Two things to check on each plan

  • What it covers: the lowest price on the page is a collision-only plan. Most others are full comprehensive cover. Check the scope before you set prices side by side.
  • The excess: the part of a claim you pay. Most plans here carry S$600. One has S$0, and some run to S$2,500 or S$3,000.

Who pays more, who pays less

The price page also shows the lowest price when one thing changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,289.99, S$433.95 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,289.99, S$433.95 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,289.99, S$433.95 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,026.65, S$170.61 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$1,051.72, S$195.68 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$813.89, S$42.15 less

For this car, a lost NCD costs most, at 51% more on the lowest price. A younger driver lands at the same figure. A new X3 costs more to insure than the 3-year-old example, and so does a driver of 65. These are lowest prices only; dearer plans may move by more or less.

Rivals on insurance

The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$878.01. The X3 is 3% below it, and two of the six cost less to insure. The BMW car insurance page covers other BMW models.

The costs that depend on how you use it

No single figure fits these, so here is what to think about:

  • Parking: season parking at home, and the rates at work and where you shop. Check your HDB block or condo rate.
  • Petrol: rises with your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the time of day.
  • Servicing: the maker sets the schedule; tyres, brakes and a battery add up over the years. Ask what the warranty includes.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses over its COE life depends on what you pay and what it fetches later.

Yearly costs in brief

For the X3 xDrive20i, as dated:

  • Road tax: S$1,209.76 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$856.04 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,289.99
  • Insurance, new car: from S$1,051.72
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$813.89

For reference, the one-off costs: list prices from S$374,888 as listed on 2026-10-10, and a Category B COE of S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
