BMW X2 sDrive16 running costs in Singapore, from COE to insurance

What a BMW X2 sDrive16 costs to keep on Singapore roads: COE category, road tax and dated car insurance prices for a stated driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

If you own a BMW X2 sDrive16, or are thinking of buying a used one, this page sets out the costs we can put a figure on. It covers the COE, road tax and car insurance, item by item.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote. Your own premium depends on your age, your record and the car you actually buy.

Which X2 these figures are for

The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. So there is no current list price to show, and this page does not guess one.

The insurance figures are for the BMW X2 sDrive16 with a 1,499cc engine. That is the version most of our insurers quote on the form. If the car you are looking at has a different engine, its road tax and premiums may differ.

The COE

Any car in Singapore needs a Certificate of Entitlement. For this car, the category turns on power, not only engine size.

With its 1,499cc engine, the X2 sDrive16 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more than that.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These figures move with each bidding round. The COE page carries the latest results.

If you buy a used X2, the COE is already paid. What matters then is how many years are left on it, since that shapes what the car is worth to you.

Road tax

Road tax depends on engine size. For the 1,499cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$683.66 a year, checked on 2026-10-19. That is before any surcharge for age.

Older cars pay more. The surcharge starts after 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

If you plan to keep the car past its tenth year, build this rise into your budget. The road tax page lets you check other engine sizes.

Insurance for a typical driver

The BMW X2 sDrive16 price page prices one set of details:

  • The car: registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • The driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • The record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, with no options added

For that driver, 13 insurers price the car. The lowest premium is S$811.71. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,636.48. That is S$1,824.77 more, or 225% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Put simply, the same car and the same driver can pay a very different amount depending on where the policy comes from. That spread is wide even by the standards of this kind of car.

Three insurers on our panel show no online price for this model yet. So the count above may grow as more of them add it.

The excess

Each plan carries an excess: the part of any claim you pay yourself. On this page most plans set it at S$600. Some go as low as S$500, a few sit at S$750 or S$800, and one plan has none. The dearest plan on the page carries an excess of S$2,500.

So read the excess next to the premium. A plan that looks cheap can leave you paying more if you ever claim.

What moves the premium

The price page also shows the lowest price when one detail changes. Everything else stays the same.

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,329.06, which is S$517.35 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,329.06, also S$517.35 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,329.06, S$517.35 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$811.71, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$836.07, S$24.36 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$742.90, S$68.81 less

The biggest change here is losing your NCD. With no discount, the lowest price rises by 64%. A younger driver with a shorter record lands at the same figure.

Car age matters less. A new X2 costs a little more to insure than the 3-year-old car on the page. One that is 8 years old costs a little less, at this lowest price.

Keep in mind these are the lowest prices only. A dearer plan may move by a different amount when the same detail changes.

Next to similar cars

The price page sets the X2 sDrive16 against six similar cars, for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$720.97. The X2 sDrive16 costs 13% more than that, and 5 of the six are cheaper to insure. Only the Mazda 3 costs more.

If you are choosing between these cars, the insurance gap is one small part of the total. Still, it repeats every year you own the car. More BMW models are on the BMW car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models side by side.

Costs that vary by owner

Some running costs depend too much on how you use the car to give a single figure.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work, malls and on the street. Check your own block's rate first.
  • Petrol: turns on how far you drive and the pump price on the day.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the hours you travel.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due over the years. Ask what any warranty or service package covers.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses in value depends on what you pay and the COE years left.

For a used X2, ask for the service record. It tells you what has been done and what may come up next.

The yearly figures in one place

For the BMW X2 sDrive16 (1,499cc), with dates as shown:

  • Road tax: S$683.66 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$811.71 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,329.06
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$742.90

For a new car, the one-off COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B), depending on power.
