Before you buy a used BMW 730Li, check one thing first: which engine it has. The quote form lists two, and they differ by almost a litre. That gap drives the road tax, the biggest yearly bill we can put a figure on. This page covers the 730Li's COE, road tax and car insurance, with a date on each figure.
The insurance prices are examples, read on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver and car. Your own premium will depend on your details, so use these as a guide.
Two engines, one name
The quote form lists:
- BMW 730Li: 2,996cc
- BMW 730Li 2.0: 1,998cc
The figures on this page are for the 730Li with the 2,996cc engine, the version most insurers quote. If the car you are viewing is the 730Li 2.0, its road tax will be much lower, and its insurance may differ. The new-car list has no 730Li on sale now, so there is no list price, power figure or body type here.
The COE
The price page states that the 730Li, with its 2,996cc engine above 1,600cc, needs a Category B COE. That closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
You are buying used, so the COE is already in place. The question is how long it has left. A car near the end of its COE should cost much less than one with years to run. If you plan to renew, check the COE page.
Road tax for the 2,996cc engine
LTA's formula gives S$2,380.40 a year for 2,996cc, before any age surcharge.
Many used 730Lis will be at or near the age where the surcharge starts:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
On a big engine, each step of that surcharge is a sizeable sum. Check the registration date before you agree a price. The road tax page works out the 1,998cc version too.
What the insurance looks like
The BMW 730Li price page prices this example:
- Car: 730Li (2,996cc), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
15 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$1,019.54 a year, which is well below the road tax. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$3,770.17. That gap is S$2,750.63, or 270% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
For one car and one driver, then, the choice of insurer can matter more than any other detail on this page. A few prices are estimates, so the insurer's own quote has the final word.
Excess
Most 730Li plans set the excess, your share of each claim, at S$600. Others use S$500, S$750 or S$800. A few ask S$2,500, one asks S$3,000, and one has no excess at all. Weigh it beside the premium.
Change one detail, see the price move
The price page lists the lowest premium after a single change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,540.20, up S$520.66
- 20% NCD: S$1,540.20, up S$520.66
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,536.83, up S$517.29
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,097.74, up S$78.20
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,093.38, up S$73.84
- A car 8 years old: S$954.89, down S$64.65
The NCD line stands out, at 51% more with none. At the lowest price, 20% NCD gives no saving over none, and a young driver pays about the same. If you are switching from another car, make sure your NCD comes with you.
The other changes are small. An 8-year-old car is S$64.65 cheaper at the lowest price, which suits a used buyer. These are lowest prices only.

- Audi S4 Saloon: S$1,501.01
- Audi Q7: S$1,238.58

- Audi S5 SPRTback: S$1,238.58
- Audi SQ5: S$1,210.01

These average S$1,214.63. The 730Li sits 16% below that. Only the Infiniti costs less to insure. More BMW models are on the BMW car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks many more.
Costs only you can estimate
- Parking: season parking at home, plus work and weekend parking. Check that the car fits any tight lots you use.
- Petrol: depends on your distance and pump prices.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
- Upkeep: ask for the service history, and what is due soon, such as tyres, brakes or a battery.
- Depreciation: shaped by what you pay and the COE years left at sale.
