Running a BMW 730i in Singapore, road tax to car insurance

The yearly costs of a used BMW 730i in Singapore: road tax on its 2,996cc engine, a Category B COE and dated insurance examples from 15 insurers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Big sedans come with big fixed costs in Singapore, and the BMW 730i is no exception. Its road tax alone runs into four figures. Its insurance, though, can be lower than you might expect, if you compare. This page goes through the costs we can date for the 730i: the COE, road tax and car insurance.

Every insurance figure here is an example, read on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver and car. Your own premium depends on your details. Treat these as a guide, not a quote.

The version on this page

The quote form lists one version, the BMW 730i, with a 2,996cc engine. The new-car list has no 730i on sale now, so there is no list price, power figure or body type here. A 730i on the market today will be a used car.

COE

The price page states that the 730i, with a 2,996cc engine above 1,600cc, needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

When you buy used, the COE comes with the car. Its value lies in the years left on it. Ask for the expiry date before you settle on a price. The COE page has the latest results for renewals.

Road tax

For the 2,996cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$2,380.40 a year, before any age surcharge. That is the largest yearly figure on this page.

An older 730i pays more again, once it is over 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So the registration date matters for this bill as much as for the COE. The road tax page shows the working.

Car insurance: plenty of choice

The BMW 730i price page prices this example:

  • Car: 730i, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

15 insurers price the 730i for that driver. The lowest premium is S$1,019.54 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$3,770.17. That is S$2,750.63 more, or 270% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That spread is enormous. The dearest lowest plan costs well over three times the lowest. With 15 insurers in the list, you have room to compare, and good reason to. A few figures on the page are estimates, so confirm them with the insurer's own quote.

What you pay on a claim

The excess is your share of each claim. Most 730i plans carry S$600. Others sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. A few ask S$2,500, one asks S$3,000, and one has none. Two plans at similar premiums can leave you with very different bills after a claim, so compare the pair.

What makes the price move

The price page lists the lowest premium after one change, all else the same:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,540.20, S$520.66 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,540.20, S$520.66 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,536.83, S$517.29 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,097.74, S$78.20 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,093.38, S$73.84 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$954.89, S$64.65 less

Losing your NCD lifts the lowest price by 51%, the largest change. A 20% NCD lands on the same figure. A young driver with three years' driving pays almost exactly the same.

The older driver and the newer car each add a modest amount. For a used buyer, an 8-year-old 730i costs S$64.65 less at the lowest price. These are lowest prices only; the plans above them may react differently.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page compares six cars:

Their average is S$1,214.63. The 730i comes in 16% below that, and only the Infiniti costs less to insure. For other BMW models, see the BMW car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks a wider set.

Costs with no fixed figure

  • Parking: season parking at your block or condo, plus parking at work and in town.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the full service record. Check what is due next, such as tyres, brakes or a battery.
  • Depreciation: set by what you pay and how many COE years remain when you sell.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
