The BMW 730d is a large sedan you will now find only on the used market. Its costs have one feature that sets it apart: very few insurers give an online price for it. That changes how you shop for cover. This page sets out what we can date for the 730d: the COE, road tax and car insurance.
The insurance figures are examples, read on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver and car. Your own premium depends on your details. Read them as a guide to how the costs behave.
The car priced
The quote form has a single version, the BMW 730d, with a 2,993cc engine. The new-car list has no 730d on sale now, so this page has no list price, power figure or body type.
COE
The price page states that the 730d, with a 2,993cc engine above 1,600cc, needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
On a used car, the COE was bought by an earlier owner. You are paying for the time left on it. Ask for the expiry date, and set the asking price against those years. The COE page has the latest results if you plan to renew.
Road tax: a large engine, a large bill
Road tax rises with engine size, and the 730d's engine is large. For 2,993cc, LTA's formula gives S$2,376.88 a year, before any age surcharge.
Cars over 10 years old also pay a surcharge:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
On an older 730d with a renewed COE, the surcharge can add a good deal to an already high figure. Check the registration date, and see the road tax page for the working.
Car insurance: a short list
The BMW 730d price page prices this case:
- Car: 730d, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
Only 2 insurers price the 730d online for that driver. The lowest premium is S$1,019.54 a year. The other insurer's lowest plan asks at least S$1,725.09, which is S$705.55 more, or 69% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Most insurers on the panel have no online price for this model yet. That does not mean they will not cover it. It means you may need to ask them directly for a quote. With so few prices to compare, each extra quote you get is worth having.
Excess
Every plan listed for the 730d carries an excess of S$600. That is the part of each claim you pay yourself. If you ask other insurers for a quote directly, check their excess too, since it may not match. A quote with a lower premium and a higher excess is not always the better deal for you.
How the price reacts
The price page shows the lowest premium after one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$2,146.43, S$1,126.89 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,717.12, S$697.58 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$2,193.25, S$1,173.71 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,210.35, S$190.81 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,835.17, S$815.63 more
- A car 8 years old: S$954.89, S$64.65 less
Every change except the older car pushes the price up, some of them sharply. The young driver case costs most, at 115% more. Losing your NCD costs S$1,126.89 more at the lowest price. Even the newer car is S$815.63 dearer, partly because only one insurer prices it.
For a used buyer, the 8-year-old car line is the one that applies most. It comes in S$64.65 below the example. Bear in mind that with only one or two insurers in each row, these figures can shift if more begin to price the car.
Similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page compares six cars:
- Audi S4 Saloon: S$1,501.01
- Audi Q7: S$1,238.58
- Audi S5: S$1,238.58
- Audi S5 SPRTback: S$1,238.58
- Audi SQ5: S$1,210.01
- Infiniti Infiniti: S$861.03
Their average is S$1,214.63. The 730d is 16% below that, and only the Infiniti is cheaper to insure. Each of those cars is priced by more insurers, though, so their figures draw on a wider field. Other BMW models are on the BMW car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks a wider set.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at home, plus work and town parking.
- Fuel: depends on your distance and pump prices.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the hours you drive.
- Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what work is due next.
- Depreciation: set by what you pay and the COE years left when you sell.
