Estate cars are a small niche in Singapore, and the BMW 5 Series Touring is one of the few on the new-car list. If the extra boot is what draws you, the costs still come down to the same few items. Here they are for the 5 Series Touring: the list price, the COE, road tax and car insurance.
Every insurance figure on this page is an example. Each was read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your premium depends on your own details, so use them as a guide to the costs, not a quote.
One version on the list
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has one 5 Series Touring: the Touring Mild Hybrid 520i M Sport. It is a petrol-electric station wagon made in Germany, with a 1,998cc engine and 188bhp.
The quote form lists the same car as the 5 Series Touring 520i M Sport (1,998cc). That is the version priced below.
List price
As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day, the Touring 520i M Sport was S$408,888.
That figure follows the COE, so it can change with each round. If you collect offers, ask what each one includes before you compare them.
COE
The price page states that the 520i M Sport, with its 1,998cc engine above 1,600cc, needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has the latest result.
Road tax
For the 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge.
If you keep the car past 10 years on a renewed COE, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
See the road tax page for how the figure is worked out.
Insuring the Touring
The BMW 5 Series Touring price page prices one case:
- Car: 5 Series Touring 520i M Sport, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
12 insurers price it for that driver. The lowest premium is S$861.03 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$3,039.75, which is S$2,178.72 more, or 253% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So for one car and one driver, the lowest plans run from S$861.03 to S$3,039.75. Few cars show a spread that wide. A few figures on the page are estimates, and the insurer's own quote is the one that counts.
Excess levels
The excess is the part of each claim you pay yourself. Most Touring plans carry S$600. Others are set at S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan asks S$2,500, and one has no excess. Compare the excess and the premium as a pair.
The details that change the price
The price page gives the lowest premium after one change, all else held:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,445.27, S$584.24 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,445.27, S$584.24 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,423.98, S$562.95 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$861.03, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$886.61, S$25.58 more
- A car 8 years old: S$787.96, S$73.07 less
The NCD is the main lever. Without it, the lowest premium is 68% higher. A 20% NCD does not help at the lowest price; it lands on the same figure as none. A younger driver with three years' driving pays almost as much.
The car's age barely moves the figure. An older driver pays the same as the example. Bear in mind these are lowest prices only, and other plans may react more.
Similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six cars:
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
- Mercedes-Benz GLC: S$925.60
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
Their average is S$878.01. The Touring is 2% below that and level with the E-Class. Two of the six, the Voxy and the Harrier, cost less to insure. The BMW car insurance page covers the make's other models, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks more.
Owner costs with no fixed figure
- Parking: season parking at your block or condo, plus parking at work and around town. A long estate fits standard lots, but check any tight spots you use.
- Petrol: depends on your distance and pump prices.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the hours you drive.
- Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule, and ask what the warranty and any service package cover.
- Depreciation: shaped by the price you pay and what the car fetches when you sell.
