BMW 5 Series Sedan costs in Singapore, from list price to insurance

The BMW 5 Series Sedan in Singapore: list prices as listed, a Category B COE, road tax and dated car insurance examples with a very wide spread.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The BMW 5 Series Sedan is a common sight in Singapore's business districts, and it is a car many buyers keep for the full COE term. If you are weighing one up, this page lists the costs we can put a date on: the list price, the COE, road tax and car insurance.

The insurance figures are examples, read on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver and car. Your own premium depends on your details. Use them to see how the costs behave, not as a quote.

What is on sale

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has three versions. All are petrol-electric mild hybrids made in Germany, listed under the luxury body type, with a 1,998cc engine:

  • 5 Series Sedan Mild Hybrid 520i: 188bhp
  • 5 Series Sedan Mild Hybrid 520i M Sport: 188bhp
  • 5 Series Sedan Mild Hybrid 530i Signature: 255bhp

The quote form also lists older versions, from the 520i SE and Luxury to the 530i M Sport, all with the same 1,998cc engine. The insurance figures below are for the 520i, the version most insurers quote.

List prices

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:

  • 520i: S$388,888
  • 520i M Sport: S$398,888
  • 530i Signature: S$410,888

These change with each COE round. Before you compare showroom offers, check what each price includes, such as the COE, registration and any service package. Two offers with the same headline figure can hold quite different things.

The COE

With a 1,998cc engine above 1,600cc, the price page states that the 520i needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has later rounds.

Road tax

All versions share the 1,998cc engine, so they share one road tax figure. LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge.

Keep the car past 10 years and a surcharge is added:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page explains the formula.

Car insurance for the example driver

The BMW 5 Series Sedan price page prices this case:

  • Car: 5 Series Sedan 520i, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

13 insurers price it for that driver. The lowest premium is S$861.03 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$3,039.75. That is S$2,178.72 more, or 253% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

This is one of the widest spreads on any car. For the same sedan and driver, the dearest lowest plan costs more than three times the lowest premium. A few prices are estimates, so the insurer's own quote has the final figure.

Excess

The excess is your share of each claim. Most plans for the 520i carry S$600. Others sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. One asks S$2,500 and one has none. A lower premium may come with a higher excess, so read the two together.

How the lowest price moves

The price page shows the lowest premium after one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,334.09, S$473.06 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,334.09, S$473.06 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,334.09, S$473.06 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$861.03, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$886.61, S$25.58 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$787.96, S$73.07 less

Losing your NCD lifts the lowest premium by 55%, the largest change. A younger driver with a short record pays that same figure. An older driver pays no more than the example. The car's age moves the price only a little in either direction.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may rise or fall by more, so look through the full list on the price page with your own details in mind. A plan that is close to the lowest for one driver can sit much higher for another.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page compares six cars:

The six average S$878.01. The 5 Series Sedan is 2% below that, level with the E-Class. Two of the six, the Voxy and the Harrier, cost less to insure. Other BMW models are on the BMW car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus parking at work and in town.
  • Petrol: depends on your distance and pump prices. The mild hybrid system works alongside the petrol engine.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and timings.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule, and ask what the warranty and any service package include.
  • Depreciation: shaped by what you pay and what the car fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
