BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe in Singapore, costs and car insurance

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe in Singapore: list price as listed, a Category B COE, road tax and dated insurance examples with a 353% spread.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The 4 Series Gran Coupe gives you four doors in a coupe shape, and it sits between the 3 Series and the larger BMWs on price. What it costs to keep in Singapore comes down to a handful of items. This page covers each of them with a date: the list price, the COE, road tax and car insurance.

Insurance figures are examples, read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your premium will depend on your details. Use them to understand the costs, not as an offer.

On sale and on the form

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has one Gran Coupe: the 420i M Sport Pro, a petrol car made in Germany and listed under the luxury body type, with 181bhp from 1,998cc.

The quote form lists three versions, all with the same 1,998cc engine:

  • 420i M Sport
  • 420i M Sport Pro
  • 430i M Sport Pro

The figures below are for the 420i M Sport, the version most insurers quote. One road tax figure covers all three.

What the list says

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day, the 420i M Sport Pro was S$365,888.

A list price is a snapshot. It follows the COE and changes from round to round. Ask each seller what their price includes before you compare.

COE

The price page states that, with a 1,998cc engine above 1,600cc, the 420i M Sport needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax each year

LTA's formula sets road tax for a 1,998cc engine at S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge.

For cars over 10 years old, a surcharge is added:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has the formula.

Car insurance, and how far apart the prices are

The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe price page prices this example:

  • Car: 420i M Sport, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

9 insurers price the Gran Coupe for that driver. The lowest premium is S$1,014.44 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$4,593.17. The gap is S$3,578.73, which is 353% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That is among the widest spreads you will find on a single car. The dearest lowest plan costs more than four times the lowest premium. Plans also differ in what they cover, so read the plan names and terms as well as the prices. Some figures on the page are estimates; the insurer's own quote has the final word.

Excess

Each plan's excess is what you pay on a claim. Most Gran Coupe plans carry S$600. Others sit at S$500 or S$800. One asks S$2,500 and one has no excess at all. A low premium paired with a high excess may not save you money if you claim.

How the lowest price moves

The price page shows the lowest premium after one change, all else equal:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,539.06, S$524.62 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,539.06, S$524.62 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,438.34, S$423.90 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,027.39, S$12.95 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,027.39, S$12.95 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$948.37, S$66.07 less

Your NCD is what counts. Without it, the lowest premium is 52% higher. A younger driver with three years' driving pays S$423.90 more. An older driver or a new car changes the price by only S$12.95.

The 8-year-old car is the one case where the lowest price falls, by S$66.07. These are lowest prices only; other plans can move by different amounts.

Compared with similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six cars:

The six average S$878.01. The Gran Coupe costs 16% more than that, and each of the six is cheaper to insure. The BMW car insurance page covers the make's other models.

The costs you set yourself

  • Parking: season parking where you live, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: depends on your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you travel.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Ask what the warranty and any service package cover.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses depends on what you pay and what it fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
