How much a BMW 4 Series Coupe costs to own in Singapore

BMW 4 Series Coupe costs in Singapore: list price as listed, a Category B COE, road tax and dated insurance examples where insurers differ widely.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Two doors, a sloping roof and a BMW badge: the 4 Series Coupe is a lifestyle choice for most buyers. In Singapore, though, most of what it costs is set by rules and insurers, not by its looks. This page tallies those costs: the list price, the COE, road tax and car insurance.

Each insurance figure here is an example, read on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver and car. Your premium will reflect your own details. Use these to see the shape of the costs.

Coupe versions

On the new-car list read on 2026-10-10, there is one 4 Series Coupe: the 420i M Sport Pro. It is a petrol car made in Germany, listed under the sports body type, with 181bhp from 1,998cc.

The quote form lists three versions, all 1,998cc:

  • 420i M Sport
  • 420i M Sport Pro
  • 430i M Sport Pro

The insurance figures below are for the 420i M Sport, the version most insurers quote. The shared engine size means one road tax figure covers all three.

The list price

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day, the 420i M Sport Pro was S$362,888.

That is a figure from one date. List prices follow the COE and move each round. When comparing offers, check what each one includes.

Category B COE

The price page states that, with a 1,998cc engine above 1,600cc, the 420i M Sport needs a Category B COE. That category closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

Results change every round; see the COE page. If you buy a used coupe instead, the COE is already paid, and the years left on it are part of what the price buys.

Road tax

For a 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula comes to S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge.

Past 10 years, the surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

See the road tax page for the working.

Premiums for the example driver

The BMW 4 Series Coupe price page prices this case:

  • Car: 420i M Sport, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

For that driver, 10 insurers price the coupe. The lowest premium is S$1,027.39 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$3,994.05, a gap of S$2,966.66, or 289% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The dearest lowest plan here costs close to four times the lowest premium. Few costs of owning this car vary so much from one choice to the next. Some prices on the page are estimates, so confirm each on the insurer's own quote.

What the excess adds

The excess is the share of each claim you pay. Most coupe plans carry S$600. Others sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan asks S$2,500, and one has no excess. A premium can look low until you add the excess you would pay on a claim.

When your details change

The price page lists the lowest premium after a single change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,539.06, S$511.67 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,539.06, S$511.67 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,438.34, S$410.95 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,027.39, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,027.39, the same
  • A car 8 years old: S$1,010.32, S$17.07 less

The driver's record does the moving. No NCD means 50% more at the lowest price, and a younger, newer driver pays S$410.95 more. Age of driver and car hardly matter: the driver aged 65 and a brand-new coupe cost the same as the example, and an 8-year-old car costs S$17.07 less.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans in the list may react to the same change in different ways.

The coupe against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page compares six cars:

The six average S$878.01. The coupe costs 17% more, and all six are cheaper to insure for this driver. For more BMW models, see the BMW car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks a wider set.

Costs without a fixed figure

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus parking at work, malls and elsewhere.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times of day.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule, and ask what the warranty and any service package include.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the price you later sell at.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
