Buying a used Honda Shuttle in Singapore, costs and insurance

The yearly costs of a used Honda Shuttle 1.5 in Singapore: the COE rule, road tax of S$681.90 and dated car insurance prices by driver and car age.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Honda Shuttle is not on the new-car list we read, so anyone buying one now is buying used. This guide is written with that in mind. It covers the costs we can put a figure to, then the checks to make before you pay a deposit.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your age, record and the car itself. Use the figures as a guide to scale, not a quote.

The versions you will find

Our quote form lists two Shuttle versions, both with a 1,496cc engine:

  • Shuttle 1.5G CVT
  • Shuttle 1.5G i-VTEC ED Tech

The figures below are for the 1.5G CVT, the version most insurers on our panel quote. Since the engine size is the same, road tax and the COE rule match for both.

COE: what the car carries

For the Shuttle 1.5G CVT, with its 1,496cc engine, the price page gives the rule. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Those are the prices for a new COE. On a used car, the COE has been paid, and what matters is the time left on it. When it runs out, the owner must renew it or take the car off the road. The COE page has the latest bidding results if you plan to renew.

Road tax, now and later

For a 1,496cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year, before any age surcharge.

Older cars pay a surcharge on top, and a used Shuttle may be close to that point:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Check the car's registration date before you buy, so you know when the next step comes. The road tax page shows how it is worked out.

Insurance for the standard driver

The Honda Shuttle price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Shuttle 1.5G CVT, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

15 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$642.42 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,270.51, which is S$628.09 more, or 98% on top. All prices include 9% GST. Only one insurer on our panel has no online price for the Shuttle yet.

Excess

The excess is the part of a claim you pay. On this page it ranges from S$0 to S$3,000, with S$600 the most common. The lowest-priced plan allows any workshop or an authorised one. Read the excess beside each premium.

How car age moves the price

For a used buyer, the age lines on the price page matter most:

  • New car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$18.27 more
  • 3 years old, the standard example: S$642.42
  • Car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less

So an older Shuttle costs a little less to insure at the lowest price. Not every insurer prices every car age online, though. The new-car line has 14 insurers against 15 for the 3-year-old car. For a much older car, fewer may give an online price, so get quotes early.

How the driver moves the price

The driver lines show bigger steps:

  • No NCD (0%): S$932.05, S$289.63 more
  • 20% NCD: S$932.05, S$289.63 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$932.05, S$289.63 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, the same

Losing the NCD adds 45% to the lowest price. A younger driver pays the same higher figure. These are lowest prices only; dearer plans can move by other amounts.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six cars:

Their average lowest price is S$749.19. The Shuttle is 14% below it. Only the Toyota Sienta costs less to insure, and the Corolla Altis matches it. Other Honda models are on the Honda car insurance page.

Before you pay a deposit

  • COE end date: confirm it in the car's records. It sets how long you can use the car before renewing.
  • Registration date: tells you when the road tax surcharge starts.
  • Road tax status: check it is paid up and when it next falls due.
  • Ownership papers: confirm the seller's name matches the records.
  • Loan status: check whether any loan on the car is still outstanding.
  • Service history: ask for the records and what is due next.
  • Inspection: have the car checked before you agree a price.
  • Your own quote: price your details and any named driver before you commit.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: your HDB block or condo season rate, plus work and mall parking.
  • Petrol: rises with your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Repairs and wear: tyres, brakes and a battery come due, more often on an older car.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay and how much COE life remains.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Shuttle 1.5G CVT, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$681.90 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$642.42 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$932.05
