Honda Airwave in Singapore, what it costs to insure and keep

Honda Airwave costs in Singapore: road tax for its 1,496cc engine, the COE rule and dated car insurance prices for several driver profiles.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Honda Airwave is no longer sold new here, but plenty of owners still need to tax and insure one. If that is you, or you are looking at one on the used market, this page brings its yearly costs together. It covers road tax, the COE rule and car insurance.

All insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to the range and what changes it, not a quote.

The Airwave on our form

The Airwave has no entry on the current new-car list, so this page gives no list price. Our quote form lists one version, the Honda Airwave with a 1,496cc engine. Every figure here is for that car.

COE: depends on power

The price page sets out the rule. With a 1,496cc engine, the Airwave needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. On a used car, what counts is the COE life remaining, since that sets how long you can keep it. The COE page has the latest round.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year for the Airwave's 1,496cc engine, before any age surcharge.

A surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

An Airwave bought today may be near or past that point, so look at its registration date. If its COE has been renewed, the surcharge keeps rising each year until it reaches the top band. The road tax page covers other engine sizes.

Insurance prices for one driver

The Honda Airwave price page uses this profile:

  • Car: Airwave, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no options

On those details, 14 insurers price the Airwave. The lowest premium is S$642.42. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,343.01. That is S$700.59 more, or 109% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Put simply, the same driver could pay more than twice as much for the same car. Only two insurers on our panel have no online price for it. Some prices are marked as estimates, so confirm those on the insurer's own site.

Mind the excess

The excess is your share of each claim. On this page, most plans set it at S$600 or S$500. Others set S$750 or S$800. A few go to S$2,500 or S$3,000.

One of the lower premiums comes with a S$2,500 excess. Another set of plans higher up carries S$3,000. A small saving on the premium can be lost quickly if you claim, so compare the two figures together.

Price changes, one at a time

The price page shows the lowest premium when a single detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$966.78, S$324.36 more
  • 20% NCD: S$966.78, S$324.36 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$966.78, S$324.36 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$18.27 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less

The NCD is the biggest factor. With none, the lowest price goes up 50%. A 20% NCD reaches the same figure, so only a high NCD brings the price down here.

The older-driver profile changes nothing at the lowest price. An older car costs a little less, and a new one a little more. Remember these are the lowest prices only. Dearer plans can shift by different amounts.

Alongside similar cars

The price page sets the Airwave beside six similar cars, for the same driver and car age:

Those six average S$749.19. The Airwave sits 14% below that. Just one of them, the Sienta, is cheaper to insure, and the Corolla Altis matches it. For other Hondas, see the Honda car insurance page. The page of cars that cost least to insure compares across makes.

Costs that depend on your use

These vary too much by owner to give one figure.

  • Parking: season parking at your block or condo, plus parking at work and in town. Check your own rate.
  • Petrol: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you travel.
  • Servicing and repairs: routine servicing, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over time. On an older car, ask to see what has been replaced and when.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the COE years left.
