Proton Wira in Singapore, the yearly costs and insurance prices

Proton Wira 1.3 costs in Singapore: road tax with the age surcharge, the COE rule and car insurance from 12 insurers for one driver, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Proton Wira is an older model, and any you find in Singapore will be second-hand. For a car like this, two things weigh heavily on the yearly bill: the road tax surcharge as the car ages, and how much your NCD saves you on insurance. This page goes through both, with the COE rule and the costs that depend on you.

The insurance figures were read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver. They are examples only, so your own price will differ.

The version we price

The new-car list we read has no Wira, so there is no list price here. Our quote form prices the Proton Wira 1.3, with a 1,299cc engine. All figures on this page are for it.

Road tax and the age surcharge

LTA's formula gives the 1,299cc engine a road tax of S$566.36 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge starts once a car is more than 10 years old and rises from there:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

On an older model like the Wira, the surcharge may well apply. Check the registration date in the car's papers, and work out which band it falls in. The road tax page has the formula for other engine sizes.

The COE

For the Wira 1.3, with its 1,299cc engine, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
  • Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round

A used car's COE is already paid, but it will run out. When it does, the owner must renew it or take the car off the road. Ask how many years are left before you agree a price. The COE page has the latest results.

Car insurance

The Proton Wira price page prices a standard profile:

  • Car: Wira 1.3, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

Note that the profile assumes a car registered 3 years ago. An older Wira is closer to the price page's 8-year-old line below.

The spread

12 insurers give an online price. Four on our panel do not: three have no online price for the model yet, and one does not list it. The price page names them.

The lowest premium is S$569.36 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,296.89: S$727.53 more, or 128% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The excess

Every plan on this page has an excess, from S$500 to S$3,000. Most carry S$600, and several carry S$500 or S$800. A few carry S$2,500 or S$3,000. Check what you would pay yourself on a claim before you go by the premium alone.

What changes the price

The price page shows the lowest price with one detail changed:

  • No NCD (0%): S$889.48, S$320.12 more
  • 20% NCD: S$889.48, S$320.12 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$889.48, S$320.12 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$569.36, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$586.41, S$17.05 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$24.36 less

Your NCD is worth the most here. Without it, the lowest price rises 56%. A 20% NCD or a younger driver lands on the same figure. An older driver pays the same lowest price, though one fewer insurer quotes. The 8-year-old car line comes in a little lower than the standard profile.

These are the lowest prices only. Dearer plans can move by other amounts.

Things to check on a plan for an older car

  • Age limits: some insurers stop pricing cars online past a certain age. If yours is old, check that each insurer will cover it.
  • Workshop: these prices are for an authorised workshop. A plan that lets you use any workshop may price differently.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive the car and what an extra driver adds.
  • Estimates: some prices on the page are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$690.53. The Wira, at S$569.36, is 18% below it, and only the C-HR is cheaper to insure. The Proton car insurance page lists other Protons.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: on an older car, ask for the full service history and check that parts are easy to get.
  • Depreciation: on a car with few COE years left, what matters most is the price you pay against the years of use you get.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$545.00
